API Chaya supports Asian, South Asian, and Pacific Islander survivors and families impacted by domestic violence and sexual assault, as well as human trafficking survivors from all communities. The Communications & Development Coordinator will provide organizational and administrative support to the Executive Director and staff to maximize API Chaya’s communications and fund development efforts. They will also work closely with the Executive Co-Director to envision and execute a creative and strategic communications plan that will help increase the visibility and impact of API Chaya, and maintain strong relationships with the organization’s donors. The Communications & Development Coordinator should be a strategic thinker and excellent problem solver who also has excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and would be dedicated to the organization’s mission.

JOB DUTIES Communications

Support strategic communications planning and implementation.

Work closely with API Chaya’s staff and Communications Team to ensure powerful messaging for organizing campaigns, and the strategic use of media communications for campaign work.

Manage the agency’s social media presence and organizational website to engage survivors, donors, volunteers, and community members.

Maintain the agency’s public-facing events calendar.

Prepare newsletters to promote agency programming and fundraising efforts.

Work closely with the Executive Director to develop and executive publications, including annual and mid-year reports.

Manage media outreach, coordination, and tracking.

Ensure communications are high quality, relevant, timely and brand consistent.

Track, evaluate, and report on communications goals and progress.

Manage speaker requests that come to the agency.

Development

Accurately record and track API Chaya’s donors and gifts.

Support research on prospective individual, foundation, and corporate funders.

Track the organization’s donor contacts through Salesforce database.

Draft individual and corporate requests.

As needed, Set up meetings with the E.D. and major/institutional donors.

Coordinate API Chaya’s donor appreciation efforts.

Work with the finance team on monthly gift reconciliation.

Develop and prepare reports as requested.

Respond to routine phone calls and emails.

Support, Coordinate, and attend fundraising events, including, but not limited to working with vendors, setting up registration, engaging volunteers, tracking gifts, setting up live events, and cleaning up.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience with CRM databases, preferably Salesforce.

Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.

Proficient in social media platforms, especially Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and Pinterest.

High-energy person who is eager to accomplish things efficiently and accurately.

Excellent written and verbal communication.

Strong sense of teamwork, with ability to interact collaboratively, respectfully, and enthusiastically with a diverse set of program staff and coalition partners.

Strong analytical skills, detail oriented with fastidious organizational skills within a dynamic environment of shifting priorities.

Self-motivated, able to work independently, able to manage multiple projects, prioritize and meet deadlines.

Excellent problem solver.

Service oriented. Able to manage both predictable workflow and emergent needs.

Ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality and boundaries with staff and community.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

1-2 years donor relations and communications experience.

Connection to our issue areas, to support excellent communications.

Knowledge of Salesforce and Squarespace.

Experience supervising volunteers.

Bilingual/Bicultural experience preferred, but not required.

COMPENSATION Compensation for this position ranges from $41,681 – $45,849 per year depending on experience. API Chaya uses a standardized points scale for equity in compensation.
