Graphics Mechanic AA Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) is seeking a Graphics Mechanic AA to fill current and future positions across multiple shifts and locations. Job Description THIS JOB OPENING IS BEING USED TO FILL CURRENT AND FUTURE VACANT POSITIONS IN THIS CLASSIFICATION AT VARIOUS SHIFTS, LOCATIONS AND ASSIGNED DAYS OFF. ORDER OF PREFERENCE: The selection for Maintenance and Construction is made on the basis of fitness and ability with preference given to Maintenance and Construction District, System‑Wide (L689), Authority‑Wide, and external candidates. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED and vocational/technical training in Graphic Arts/Silk Screening Program Experience After ten to twelve months following the achievement of the respective grade level, an incumbent may be advanced to the next grade level if applicable tests, certifications, and fitness requirements are met. Grade‑specific experience: Level D – minimum of two (2) years of Graphics Mechanic work or related experience Level C – minimum of three (3) years of Graphics Mechanic work or related experience Level B – minimum of four (4) years of Graphics Mechanic work or related experience Level A – minimum of five (5) years of Graphics Mechanic work or related experience Level AA – minimum of six (6) years of Graphics Mechanic work or related experience Certification/Licensure Possession of or ability to rapidly obtain and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's permit from the jurisdiction of residence Preferred N/A Medical Group Satisfactorily complete the medical examination if required. The incumbent must be able to perform essential functions of this position either with or without reasonable accommodations. Mission Essential Designation This position has been identified as critical to mission essential functions and may require continued work during emergencies. Job Summary The Graphics Mechanic is skilled in graphic art and silk‑screening work, creating logos, packaging, decals, signs, and posters for the promotion of goods, services, and ideas. The incumbent reviews design requirements, develops concepts, prepares sketches, diagrams, layouts, and production methods, and performs cost and material analyses. At each grade level, increased proficiency and efficiency are expected. Essential Functions Uses computer‑aided design programs to produce signs, decals, and posters for WMATA vehicles. Performs silk screening to produce various styles and types of signage and logos. Organizes work requests and determines methods, techniques, and materials needed to accomplish assignments. Prepares written materials such as repair logs, parts lists, and warranty claims to document activities and meet mandatory requirements. Responds to and provides assistance in emergencies such as securing WMATA vehicles and equipment, and fire/life/safety and snow emergencies to ensure safety and reliability. Operates Authority vehicles as required. Evaluation Criteria Consideration will be given to applicants whose resumes demonstrate the required education and experience.
