Music Therapist, Neurology Research (per diem) Position Summary: We are looking for an experienced board‑certified music therapist to serve on an interdisciplinary clinical research team in the inpatient/acute hospital setting at Boston Medical Center. The research program focuses on the prevention and treatment of hospital‑acquired delirium in older adults. The primary patient focus will be on neurological conditions, specifically Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. The music therapist will help design intervention protocols and administer music therapy sessions to hospitalized patients with neurological disorders. Job Responsibilities Work collaboratively with neurologists, physicians from other specialties, nurses, other healthcare workers, patients, their families, medical students and neurology residents in this research program. Demonstrate knowledge in various diagnoses related to neurological disease. Demonstrate knowledge in various clinical presentations resulting from a neurologic injury or disease (e.g., aphasia, neglect, gait deficits, cognitive impairment and behavioral disturbances). Contribute to the development of a targeted intervention for hospital‑acquired delirium in patients with neurodegenerative diseases, in coordination with consulting music therapists at other study sites. Deliver music therapy sessions to hospitalized patients. Sessions will be personalized and culturally sensitive, adjusting approaches based on in‑the‑moment responses and adapting interventions to suit each patient’s unique needs and abilities. Plan, evaluate, and document sessions based on various theory of music and mechanism‑focused frameworks. Strategize with the research team to identify and troubleshoot barriers to music therapy delivery and related research protocols. Education & Qualifications Bachelor of Science or higher in Music Therapy from an accredited program (Master’s level preferred). MT‑BC license (Board Certified). At least 3 years of experience in neurologic music therapy or music therapy with older adults. Knowledge of theoretical frameworks for neurologic music therapy. Experience working with older adults with cognitive impairment and dementia, including patients with delirium, behavioral disturbances and agitation. Ability to work independently and contribute to team success. Flexibility in a fast‑paced environment and excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Compensation $27.–$40.38 per hour. This range is based on minimum job qualifications and may vary with education, experience, skills, certifications, and other factors.
