Position Summary

The Assistant Athletic Director of Broadcast Technologies will lead efforts in delivering first class broadcast experiences while managing departmental broadcast units and overseeing the day‑to‑day broadcast technical operations. The position is responsible for directing the identification, installation, modification, operation and repair of all broadcast technologies and equipment regarding UGAAA video presentation for in‑venue broadcasts and live event broadcast in support of UGAAA and SEC Broadcast Partners. Position will lead technical oversight of event in‑venue coverage, facilitate live television broadcasts for both linear and stream productions and manage all control room and remote based broadcast technology.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent plus 10 years of professional experience to include 3 years of supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Minimum of 10 years of professional experience. Previous experience designing and overseeing the construction and operation of linear television/digital and in‑house video control rooms. 10 years experience in live production with additional experience in remote production.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Competencies

Demonstrated ability and experience in the video industry, including experience in live television broadcast, live streaming and video board production. Expert understanding of broadcast control rooms, production staffing and familiarity with modern broadcast pathway and signal. Experience with but not limited to the following: HD Cameras, HD Switchers, IP Based Intercom, Audio and Video Routers, Fiber optic transmission, cable termination and all aspects of television control room maintenance and engineering. Familiarization with the following equipment: Ross Acuity and Carbonite production switchers, Sony HSC 300 R and HDC 3200/3500 Cameras, Evertz routing, Telecast and Evertz fiber converters, Evertz Bravo., Riedel Intercom, Ross Xpresision CG, and Evertz MIV. Ability to communicate proficiently with individuals within and outside the University. Ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks. Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, good organizational skills and ability to interact with individuals at all levels.

Responsibilities

  • Scheduling and coordination of broadcast events in control rooms and remote locations with internal and external production groups to ensure all productions meet schedules and configurations for multiple broadcasts simultaneously. Includes serving as the department liaison for broadcast partners to obtain and deliver requested broadcast and audio feeds. (15%)
  • Serve as the technical SEC Network point of contact and participate in regularly scheduled meetings and align our production capabilities with network operations. (15%)
  • Responsible for the identification, installation, modification, repair and event day engineering of all control room technology, in‑venue video boards, LED boards and scoring and timing technology. Creates and maintains five and ten year strategic plans for control room and in‑venue technology and equipment used to keep technologies up to date and operational as well as third party maintenance agreements. (20%)
  • Serve as the department technical and operational lead for all instant replay operations. Ensure designated instant replay technology is installed and operational per UGA Athletics and SEC standards and have prepared for game day staff to manage event operations. (10%)
  • Serve as the point person for technical operations and departmental capital projects that may include or affect existing broadcast technologies including but not limited to video boards, LED, other video, audio, communication and fiber pathway technologies. (10%)
  • Provide oversight and leadership of broadcast services units (in‑venue and digital/linear teams) and ensure departmental strategy is executed. (20%)
  • Responsible for the identification, coordination and implementation of new and emerging technologies for in‑venue, mobile and future content distribution platforms. Develops and coordinates the strategy and budget for the purchase of content delivery technology and partners with designated facility staff for the installation and integration of all equipment. Provides technology and integration strategy for all conference related instant replay platforms. (5%)
  • Oversee budgets and maintain fiscal responsibility for assigned areas. (5%)
