Role

We’re looking for a talented and data‑driven Content Creator & Marketer to join our growing creative team at Step Out Media.

In this role, you’ll own Step Out Buffalo’s website and daily email newsletter — planning, writing, publishing, and distributing content that grabs attention, informs readers, and drives measurable results. This is a high‑impact position for someone who thrives in a fast‑paced creative environment and loves making content that actually moves the needle.

Who You Are

  • 3‑6 years experience in creative marketing or content creation
  • You think like a marketer and create like a storyteller.
  • You’re curious, analytical, and obsessed with understanding what drives attention and action.
  • You have impeccable taste and a genuine passion for Buffalo’s food, drink, nightlife, and experiences — you love discovering and sharing what’s worth trying next.
  • You stay up‑to‑date on trends, pop culture, and local happenings — from restaurants and shops to events and getaways.
  • You’re organized, proactive, and able to juggle multiple projects without sacrificing quality.
  • You love testing, learning, and iterating based on performance data.
  • You’re not afraid of metrics — you use them to refine your creative strategy.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Write and publish 7 website articles/week and 5 emails/week that hook attention and drive clicks.
  • Find and package story ideas that blend attention‑grabbing, evergreen SEO, timely topics and trends, and tentpole local moments.
  • Be the go‑to local expert — tracking what’s new in Buffalo/WNY’s food, drink, shops, events, and getaways.
  • Research, test, and implement best practices for content and platform performance (email, website, social).
  • Analyze engagement data and adjust hooks, headlines, and angles accordingly.
  • Collaborate with the creative and leadership teams to refine Step Out’s content strategy and processes.
  • Experiment with emerging tools, features, and content formats to improve audience growth and engagement.

The Results You Bring

  • Audience Growth: +15–20% YoY increase in editorial sessions through improved hooks, packaging, and distribution.
  • Website Sessions: Maintain a consistent baseline of monthly organic website sessions/pageviews.
  • Email Performance: ≥ 40% open rate and ≥ 6% CTR on daily emails.
  • Audience Engagement: High‑performing content that reflects Step Out’s tone, voice, and standards.
  • Local Authority: Becoming a trusted source for what’s new and noteworthy in Buffalo/WNY.
  • Innovation: Consistent testing, learning, and optimization that keeps Step Out ahead of content trends.

Location

  • Buffalo, NY (Hybrid) — must have strong awareness of and proximity to the Buffalo/WNY region. (within 35 miles of Downtown Buffalo preferred)

Compensation

  • Base Salary: $55,000 – $65,000
  • Performance Bonus: $2,000 – $3,000 tied to sessions and email growth KPIs
