Base pay range $40.00/hr - $50.00/hr
Environmental Designer (Retail Architecture and Space Planning)
Hybrid, Boston | Contract through July with potential to extend
Our client is looking for an Environmental Designer who can support a global store design team working across retail architecture, spatial planning, and rollout execution. This is a hands‑on position that blends technical drawing, 3D modeling, and real‑world problem solving. It is ideal for someone with an interior design or architecture foundation who understands how retail spaces function and who can move quickly from concept to layout.
What You Will Do
Translate design guidelines and brand standards into accurate store layouts for multiple regions
Develop detailed CAD plans, elevations, and technical documentation that support both design and construction needs
Build and refine SketchUp models for store environments, fixtures, and spatial studies
Support the rollout of global retail concepts and adapt layouts for different store types, footprints, and regional constraints
Work closely with senior designers to interpret early concepts and turn them into fully realized spatial solutions
Prepare clear presentation materials using Photoshop and InDesign for internal reviews and stakeholder meetings
Shift seamlessly between templated layouts and custom configurations depending on project requirements
Adjust plans quickly as needs change and maintain accuracy while working under tight timelines
What You Bring
Background in interior design or architecture with a strong understanding of retail or commercial environments
Demonstrated ability in space planning and spatial problem solving
Comfort working in a production‑heavy workflow with frequent design iterations
Confidence asking questions, clarifying direction, and communicating clearly with a cross‑functional team
Ability to balance independence with collaboration while staying organized and deadline focused
Adaptability and a positive approach to shifting day‑to‑day priorities
Required Technical Skills
AutoCAD (required and heavily used)
SketchUp (required for daily modeling)
Enscape (preferred for quick visualization)
Photoshop (preferred)
InDesign (preferred)
Hybrid role based in Boston
In‑office Tuesday through Thursday (negotiable)
No remote‑only options will be considered
