Department VP for External Affairs

Position Summary Reporting to the Vice President for External Affairs, this fellowship offers a hands‑on opportunity to support the development and launch of the first‑of‑its‑kind Bronx Green Jobs Center (BGJC). The fellow represents the interests of Fordham's students, faculty, and staff, and cultivates relationships with community stakeholders to organize and begin marketing and communications processes for opening the BGJC. If you are considering a career in community engagement or communications/marketing, this fellowship will provide you with the opportunity to gain an understanding of community organizing, marketing/communications/strategy development, and event planning. Fellows must be members of a defined priority population and residents of New York's 14th Congressional District. This 15‑month grant‑funded position is made possible through the Climate Justice Fellowship Plus Program and is contingent upon continued grant funding from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA).

Essential Functions

Assists in the creation and editing of marketing materials such as newsletters, blog posts, press releases, social media content, and presentations.

Helps manage social media accounts by scheduling posts and tracking performance.

Updates and maintains marketing databases, contact lists, and media kits.

Contributes creative ideas for improving communication strategies and audience engagement to communicate the work of the BGJC.

Assists with general operations and daily logistics of the BGJC.

Supports in the development and planning of public‑facing events.

Researches opportunities for Fordham to partner with community‑based organizations, industry, and more.

Assists with general marketing and communications for the BGJC and the local community.

Participates in discussions, decisions, and projects – both individually and as part of a team.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.

Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in office administration, customer service, or related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with community‑based organizations and/or the Bronx/NYC context.

Knowledge of green industries, sustainability, or workforce training programs.

Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred.
