Position Overview The Manager of Store Design leads the design process for retail environments, ensuring they align with brand identity and business goals while delivering on Sephora's innovative retail experience. This role serves as both a strategic design leader and hands‑on people manager, overseeing projects from concept to completion while developing and inspiring a team of talented Store Designers. Collaborating with cross‑functional partners, this position elevates the overall quality of store design to uphold the Sephora experience while meeting cost, schedule, and operational requirements. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable solving complex site‑specific challenges and maintaining a relentless focus on optimal design solutions across all project scopes.

Key Responsibilities Team Leadership & Development

Coach, lead, engage, inspire, and develop a team of talented Store Designers

Provide strategic direction while maintaining hands‑on involvement in project work

Foster a collaborative environment that encourages innovation and professional growth

Design Management & Quality Control

Oversee planning, interior elevations, and storefront design studies based on Sephora design standards and site‑specific conditions

Facilitate team efforts to develop comprehensive project scopes, including code reviews, tenant criteria, and merchandise requirements

Ensure quality control across all deliverables and maintain consistency with Sephora design standards

Coordinate with external consultant architects and engineers throughout the design process

Cross‑Functional Collaboration

Partner closely with Real Estate, Retail Operations, Merchandising, Property Development, and Execution teams

Expertly communicate Sephora's brand point of view to external partners

Lead initiatives with cross‑functional teams and represent Store Design perspectives in strategic discussions

Project & Process Management

Navigate and manage high‑profile, complex projects including special initiatives and prototype development

Oversee design implementation, construction document development, scheduling, and permitting processes

Lead process evolution and implement industry best practices

Contribute to the development of design tools, templates, guidelines, and feasibility studies

Strategic Innovation

Provide industry insights and fresh perspectives to continually improve store delivery

Ensure all stores are on‑brand, beautiful, functional, and cost‑effective

Stay current with retail design trends and integrate relevant innovations

Qualifications Required Experience

Minimum 7 years of experience in Retail Architecture, Retail Design, or similar field

Minimum 5 years of leading and/or managing high‑performing teams

Technical Proficiencies

Highly proficient in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite, and Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator)

Experience with visualization tools (SketchUp, Rhino, 3DS MAX)

Strong architectural design skills including floor plans, elevations, and renderings

Knowledge of construction documentation and CAD software

We’re Looking For We're looking for a design leader who combines technical expertise with exceptional people management skills, ready to shape the future of Sephora's retail environments while developing the next generation of design talent.

The annual base salary range for this position is $132,005.00- $147,535.00. The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include, as applicable, the applicant’s qualifications for the position; years of relevant experience; specific and unique skills; level of education attained; certifications or other professional licenses held; and the geographic location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will perform the job. Individuals employed in this position may also be eligible to earn bonuses.
