About the Role Our Video Distribution Engineer builds and maintains cutting‑edge compression and digital distribution platforms for one of the premier national broadcasters. Snapshot of Responsibilities Embrace a culture of continuous learning, especially in emerging technologies. Be motivated as part of a high‑performing team, delivering high‑quality products. Enjoy learning from and mentoring others. Build strong analytical, reasoning, and technical troubleshooting skills. Gain and maintain knowledge of major satellite and fiber distribution systems and the vendors that supply them. Work various shifts as part of a 24/7 coverage team and obtain the ability to translate business and operation requirements into technical requirements.
Engineering & Support
Acts as Tier 1 support for all on‑air broadcast systems.
Follows standard operating procedures and documentation to support the operations team in a 24/7 environment.
Builds and maintains FOX’s compression & transport infrastructure.
Conducts lab, performance, and system tests and prototype efforts that continually evolve FOX’s architecture and infrastructure.
Collaboration & Partnerships
Supports the Media Control Center in day‑to‑day operations and assists users with technical issues or concerns.
Partners with the Engineering and Standards & Advanced Technology teams to develop groundbreaking technology solutions for challenging business issues.
Collaborates with engineering teams, operations teams, and third‑party vendors to develop long‑term strategy, product development and implementation road maps.
Performance Improvement
Knows data is critical to making informed business decisions and uses it to understand and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the team’s performance.
Analyzes dashboards and constantly optimizes system security and testing, minimizing bugs that make it to final products.
Prioritizes the use of Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) to motivate the team.
People Management & Development
Embodies a culture of continuous learning, especially in emerging technologies.
Is motivated by being part of a high‑performing team and delivering high‑quality products.
Enjoys learning from and coaching others.
What You Will Need
Maintain and troubleshoot compressed and uncompressed workflows.
MPEG/JPEG decoding, encoding, transcoding, processing, multiplexing, encryption, decryption, uplink/downlink processes, master control, etc.
Build strong knowledge of SCTE insertion systems, media contribution/distribution.
Have familiarity with on‑prem test and measurement platforms; acquire the ability to work effectively across different projects and teams.
Advanced maintenance of satellite and linear distribution, architecture/deploying, monitoring, alerting, and/or data analysis.
Lead new projects, collaborate with various teams, test and validate new systems.
Conduct lab, performance, and system tests and prototype efforts that continually evolve FOX’s architecture and infrastructure of the SMPTE 2110 suite of standards.
Expert knowledge of SDI video transport and familiarity with new video codecs and compression (e.g., SRT, RTP, Zixi, HLS).
Nice to Have, but Not a Dealbreaker
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent practical experience in Engineering, IT, Computer Science or related Tech field.
Advanced knowledge of video compression & codecs, such as SMPTE ST‑2110, JPEGXS, HEVC.
Knowledge and experience with emerging technologies such as 4K High Dynamic Range, and HDR10+ is a plus.
Knowledge of industry standards such as ATSC and SMPTE.

This role is also eligible for various benefits, including medical/dental/vision, insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and other benefits in accordance with applicable plan documents. Benefits for union‑represented employees will be in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
