Technical Writers

to join our team supporting the Office of the Under Secretary of War for Research and Engineering (OUSW(R&E). The successful candidates will support the development of high-quality written products, briefing materials, presentations, and other public-facing communications for OUSW(R&E). The Technical Writers will be responsible for conveying accurate and compelling messaging tailored to various audiences, utilizing their expertise in PowerPoint and other multimedia.

These positions are full time on site in Arlington, VA.

These positions are contingent upon contract award anticipated in late 2025 / early 2026.

Job Description

Develop concise, high-quality written materials including reports, talking points, briefings, and other public-facing documents.

Create dynamic and engaging presentations properly scoped to different audiences, using PowerPoint and other multimedia tools.

Interface with senior-level officials to review, analyze, and recommend solutions to programmatic problems and issues.

Schedule and coordinate speaking engagements and handle associated logistics.

Develop compelling written materials in multiple formats such as reports, briefing materials, blog posts, videos, letters, articles, op-eds, and social media content.

Research multiple topics, particularly those involving emerging technologies, to write persuasive speeches and create presentations addressing complex and high-profile issues.

Tailor messages to different audiences including media, social media followers, students, and industry.

Advise and consult with OUSW(R&E) leadership on messaging and communications strategies in line with strategic communications plans for OUSW(R&E).

Qualifications Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, or communications is required. Graduate degree in communications, journalism, or media is preferred.

Seven (7) years of experience in communications and public affairs. Highly preferred experience and skills in communications, public relations, and/or journalism at the DoD and/or Service Component Headquarters level.

Required Clearance

Active TS/SCI.

U.S. Citizenship.

Required Skills

Expert level skills in the use and development of PowerPoint and other multimedia applications.

Creative writing skills and ability to develop compelling written materials in multiple formats.

Proficient with social media and capable of developing and executing social media communication strategies.

Provide ability to explain complex subject matter in clear, compelling language.

Ability to handle multiple projects independently and effectively.

Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks.
