Position Overview
The Grant Writer is responsible for researching, identifying, developing, and responding to grant opportunities that support business growth, social enterprise initiatives, and program expansion. This position will develop clear, compelling proposals that align with funding guidelines, organizational goals, and community impact priorities. The ideal candidate has strong writing, analytical, and project management skills, with demonstrated success in securing federal, state, corporate, and foundation funding.
Primary Responsibilities
- Research and identify grant opportunities for business development, social enterprise initiatives, small business support, and nonprofit programming.
- Prepare high-quality grant proposals, letters of intent, capability statements, and funding applications.
- Collaborate with leadership and program teams to gather program information, budgets, data, and outcomes for proposals.
- Maintain an active grant calendar including deadlines, reporting requirements, deliverables, and outcomes tracking.
- Write compelling narratives and case statements that clearly articulate needs, goals, organizational capacity, impact, and sustainability strategies.
- Track and evaluate awarded grant performance, preparing reports for funders and leadership.
- Assist in the development of fundraising materials, including pitch decks, program descriptions, success stories, and capacity-building documents.
- Build and maintain relationships with foundations, corporate sponsors, government agencies, and funding partners.
- Conduct ongoing prospect research to diversify funding streams.
- Work with finance and leadership teams to develop accurate budgets and financial documentation.
- Ensure compliance with grant requirements, documentation, and reporting standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business, nonprofit management, communications, English, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum of 2–3 years of proven grant writing experience with measurable funding success.
- Experience securing funding for small business development, entrepreneurship initiatives, workforce development, social enterprise projects, or nonprofit programs preferred.
- Strong understanding of government, corporate, and foundation grant processes.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to write persuasively and concisely.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work independently with strong attention to detail.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and fundraising research tools (e.g., Grants.gov, SAM.gov, Foundation Directory Online, GrantStation, Instrumentl, etc.).
- Strong analytical, budgeting, and data-driven writing skills.
