The Wall Street Journal seeks an experienced, motivated Senior Video Graphics Animator to create compelling graphics and strengthen the visual language of our video team. WSJ Video blends deep reporting with an array of formats: investigations, short and long‑form field pieces, fast‑paced quick‑turn news content, video podcasts, social content, and series. We are constantly innovating how we tell stories.

You Will

  • Work on a variety of timelines, ranging from same‑day turnarounds to longer‑term projects.
  • Collaborate closely with producers and EP’s to translate complex information into strong, legible visuals.
  • Streamline existing workflows and develop new ones when needed.
  • Provide creative feedback and art direction for team members, editors, and producers.
  • Help develop and maintain a large library of .mogrt templates for editors.
  • Occasionally work on breaking news pieces during evening and weekend hours.

You Have

  • At least 4 years of experience creating video graphics professionally, ideally in a newsroom or journalistic setting.
  • A dynamic, stylistically diverse body of work that demonstrates a range of skills and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Expert level command of industry‑standard animation and design software, including After Effects, Illustrator, Photoshop.
  • Deep knowledge of After Effects expressions, scripting, and templatizing assets as .mogrt files.
  • Firm grasp of video editing using Adobe Premiere Pro.
  • Solid understanding of 3D rendering techniques and software, such as Blender or Cinema4D.
  • Familiarity with map‑making principles and software, such as GEOlayers, QGIS, ArcGIS.
  • Experience with data visualization, research, and processing.
  • Drive to constantly learn new skills and stay up to date with the latest technological developments.
  • A deep understanding and interest in The Journal’s core coverage areas.

Position is based in New York and will report to the Video Graphics Director.
