Senior Technical Writer
Location: San Diego, CA 92131 (Scripps Ranch)
Full‑time ONSITE position
Hours: Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Company is ITAR compliant – requiring all employees to be US citizens or permanent residents.
Responsibilities
Research, create, and edit operational, instructional, maintenance, and test procedural documents in accordance with internal guidelines and industry standards.
Conduct interviews with and observe work performed by users, technical staff, and production staff to gather data for documentation.
Gather photographs and other media to enhance documents with visual clarification.
Translate technical information into manuals and documents for non‑technical and technical users.
Produce work product that confirms to the company documentation and quality assurance standards.
Utilize Microsoft Office products (MS Word, etc.) to prepare documents.
Coordinate reviews and approvals of draft documents with subject matter experts prior to finalizing or releasing documents.
Perform housekeeping and clean‑up tasks as required.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from a four‑year college or university in a related discipline and 10–15 years of directly related experience and/or training.
10 years hands‑on experience with researching, creating, and editing manufacturing / test procedures, user manuals and other technical documentation.
Extensive manufacturing background with technical products, preferably consumer electronics or medical device.
Expert experience working in MS Word, with knowledge of formatting, paragraph styles, and table of contents.
Software: MS Word (Advanced), Adobe Illustrator.
Experience with IFS preferred.
Extensive knowledge of gathering information for and creating technical documentation for manufacturing and testing of technical products.
Exceptional English grammar skills.
Strong mechanical aptitude.
Good computer skills, especially MS Word, and ability to comprehend ERP.
Self‑starter with ability to work effectively with limited supervision.
