Producer
WLTX-TV in Columbia, S.C. is seeking a curious, creative, and ambitious tech‑minded Producer to shape our live news coverage and shows on our streaming and broadcast services. We’ll choose the candidate who is a risk‑taker and a creator with a talent for showcasing information for our audience. We prioritize breaking news and weather, investigative journalism, and original storytelling as key components of our local news coverage. We’re looking for someone who wants to learn and use technology like vMix for show production. We value a collaborative, motivated journalist who works well within a team to bring the truth to our audience.
Responsibilities
Craft compelling local news programs that embrace breaking news, enterprise content, emotion, and showcasing
Work directly with Executive Producer & news leaders to consistently build high‑quality live news coverage
Quickly react to breaking news and manage the show’s timing
Booth continuous coverage on streaming and broadcast for breaking news, weather coverage, and community events
Book and produce guest segments for use across platforms
Use our extensive toolkit along with your own creative production techniques to enhance stories
Include different viewpoints and communities in your local news coverage and shows
Write in an exciting, accurate, and creative way
Enterprise news stories
Research stories to ensure they are factual and ascertain sources’ credibility
Use AI, social media and digital tools to research, discover, and produce content
Use new production technologies and automation systems
Perform other tasks as required by supervisor or executive producer

Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field preferred.
1–3 years of news content experience, ideally with experience in show production.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple aspects of newscast production under tight deadlines.
Excellent communication skills for coordinating within the newsroom and adapting plans in high‑pressure, live situations.
Ability to maintain composure and adaptability during breaking news and high‑stakes events.
Proficiency in news production tools is preferred, with a willingness to learn new systems for production coding and show direction.
Knowledge of vMix, ENPS, Edius, or similar production platforms.
Shifts could include overnight hours, holidays and weekends.

Our 401(k) program offers full, part‑time and temporary employees the opportunity to contribute 1% – 80% of their pay on a pre‑tax basis to TEGNA’s 401(k). Contributions made up to the first 4% of pay are eligible for a 100% match from the company and are 100% vested from day one.
Regardless of participation in TEGNA medical plans, all employees and their eligible family members receive nine free virtual doctor’s appointments with a physician through Teladoc, and 12 free annual therapy sessions with a licensed clinician through Spring Health.
TEGNA offers a generous Paid Time Off (PTO) benefit as well as nine paid holidays per year.
