Position Summary This is a fast‑paced, highly technical work environment involving automated systems pertaining to law enforcement public safety communications. The role requires the ability to comprehend and apply county, state and federal regulations governing law enforcement and public safety operational procedures, including transmissions by radio and telephone. Responsibilities include analyzing situations, determining effective courses of action, adjusting quickly to changing situations, assessing time and sensitive information, performing several tasks simultaneously, and assigning appropriate priorities to incoming calls while monitoring multiple frequencies and viewing multiple computer screens. The position demands maintaining an efficient and calm demeanor in a high‑volume public safety work environment. It requires frequent contact with the public, police, emergency service providers, and occasional contact with other federal, state, and local government agencies.

Essential Job Duties And Key Responsibilities

Processes incoming and outgoing emergency and non‑emergency telephone calls.

Dispatches and communicates with law enforcement, fire and EMS units.

Provides Supervisor with input regarding policies and procedures for the communications center.

Provides prompt and courteous service to all college community.

Works effectively and calmly in a high‑stress environment.

Maintains familiarity with the general geography of the communities served.

Meets all training requirements and trains new staff or cross‑trained staff.

Participates in available professional development for center staff.

Familiarity with principles and practices of radio communications and public safety dispatching.

Knowledge of all aspects of operations of a public safety communications center.

Manages communication facilities, equipment, and management practices.

Utilizes technology systems (CAD and records management system, cameras, alarm boards).

Recognizes and understands classification systems for UCR, NIBRS, and Clery.

Operates and monitors various computer systems and networks as necessary for dispatching tasks.

Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Two (2) years of experience in police, fire or emergency dispatch.

Strong verbal and written skills and willingness to work cooperatively with a diverse population under high stress.

Ability to file and keep records and prepare reports from such records.

Successful completion of in‑house training for the position.

Acquisition and maintenance of LEADS certification within one (1) year of assignment.

Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior police, fire or emergency dispatch experience of two or more years.

English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency.

Demonstrated multicultural competence.

Tools and Equipment Used Personal computer, copy machine, fax machine, multi‑line telephone, radio system and CAD terminals.

Benefits Benefits are provided through the Technical Office Support Staff Council (TOSSC)-AFT Local 604.

Employment Details Full‑time, 40 hours per week. Union: TOSSC.
