A Day in This RoleYou walk the shop floor before the first stand-up meeting. Priority work orders are already staged because you coordinated with receiving yesterday and pre-positioned raw material to cut setup time. A rush job pops up—you hop on a forklift, move stock to the cell, and cut it to length on the bandsaw, swapping blades and coolant as needed to keep the saw in top condition.Throughout the day, you track open orders through the entire production process. You flag risks to on-time delivery early, elevate issues, and rally help across purchasing, production control, and shipping/receiving to keep everything flowing. You keep a close eye on work order packets—verifying materials, resolving discrepancies, prioritizing by due date—and you update status changes accurately so everyone has the latest information. As the Production and Inventory Controller’s (PIC) partner, you align dates in the MRP/ERP system, level-load equipment based on stated capacity, and proactively communicate any delays. In stand-up, you brief operations on the day’s hotspots and mitigation plans. By shift end, materials are where they need to be, risks are mitigated, and you’ve helped the team hit another milestone.
