Machine Design, Installation and Maintenance Technician (Research Tec 3/4)
This position will be filled at either the Research Technician 3 or Research Technician 4 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level. The High Explosives (HE) Fabrication and Disposition Group (M-8) in the Dynamic Experiments (M) Division is seeking a qualified Research Technician that will assist in the research, design, installation, modification, repair and ongoing preventative maintenance of industrial fabrication equipment used to press, machine and inspect HE. The successful candidate will have a diverse background in complex equipment including electrical, mechanical, pneumatics, vacuum, pressure systems, safety interlock and other critical system components that are critical to high consequences of safety. Becoming qualified to work on all aspects of the highly specialized equipment will be essential and job specific training will be provided. Responsibilities for Research Technician 3: Work under direct supervision to perform basic equipment installation and troubleshooting of industrial fabrication equipment Perform preventative maintenance activities to predetermined procedures Acquire and maintain pertinent certifications and qualifications to support installation and maintenance of specialized HE fabrication equipment Occasional overtime may be required Additional Responsibilities for Research Technician 4: Perform industrial equipment installation and troubleshooting with minimal oversight Work from electrical schematics and mechanical drawings to install custom equipment within a HE environment Lead corrective maintenance activities on complex fabrication equipment Minimum Job Requirements: Basic knowledge and experience working safely with electrical equipment powered by 480VAC or 208VAC facility power Demonstrated experience fabricating, assembling, installing and testing electronic, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, vacuum or mechanical systems Demonstrated experience with oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills Demonstrated record of dependability, reliability, and commitment to long-term needs of the job duties and programmatic goals of the position and organization Demonstrated commitment in the areas of safety, security, quality and environment Ability to work a 4 day per week, 10 hour per day work schedule Education Required:
Position requires an Associate's Degree and 3 years of related experience for Research Technician 3, or an Associate's Degree and 5 years of related experience for Research Technician 4; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. Equal Opportunity:
