Plastic Injection Mold Designer
Summary of Job This position requires a high level of understanding of how plastic injection mold's function and operate. Ability to design plastic injection molds.
Responsibilities
Create 3D CAD models of injection molds based on TSG Mold Standards and part specifications, considering factors like draft angles, gate locations, and cooling channels.
Analyze part design for manufacturability and identify potential molding issues.
Design mold components like cavity, core, slides, and ejector plates, ensuring proper fit and function.
Design the necessary electrodes for EDM process.
Generate 2D drawings for mold fabrication.
Interpret plastic simulation results.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Experience
3+ years as Injection Mold Designer, with demonstrated experience designing molds, interpreting simulation results, and generating drawings for mold fabrication.
Required Education
High school diploma, general education degree (GED), or equivalent work experience.
Bachelor's degree in engineering or other related field, preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Proficient in SolidWorks 3D CAD software.
Understanding of plastic injection molding principles, including material properties, gate design, and cooling systems.
Work closely with engineers, mold makers, and quality personnel to ensure mold design meets project requirements.
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills to identify design flaws and resolve manufacturing issues.
Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with cross‑functional teams.
Can work independently as well as in a team atmosphere with minimal supervision.
Attention to detail to ensure precise mold design and programming.
Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
Must be proficient in shop mathematics and understand geometry and trigonometry.
Proficient in most basic computer file folder operations, email, Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Access).
Preferred Additional Skill
Perform mold flows using SolidWorks Plastics to confirm fill, venting, and warping of the molded part (Plastic Injection Simulation).
