Junior Telecommunications Line Installer and Repairer (4769)
SMX is hiring a Junior Telecommunications Line Installer and Repairer to support the Protective Distribution System (PDS) and Network Infrastructure teams.
In this role, you will perform daily inspection of the RDT&E fiber network across NAS Pax River by inspecting PDS conduits, pulling boxes to ensure none have been tampered with, and inspecting communications closets to ensure the PDS cabinets are secure and have not been tampered with.
The PDS/Network Infrastructure Team supports NAWCAD - Digital Network and Applications department 365 days per year. Coverage is shared by the entire team.
Each team member may be required to alternate supporting weekends and/or Holidays on a rotating shift
Responsibilities
Design, install, maintenance, repair, and test of telecommunications backbone cabling, both interior and outside plant including installation, splicing and termination of copper and fiber communications cable and coaxial cable, installation of racks/frames and cable management hardware.
Maintain an accurate database of all cables, wires, terminations, routes, and other maintenance data, and make the database available to the Government and other Contractors when required to successfully integrate new capabilities and maintain reliable service.
Consult Dig Permits to determine location of fiber optic networks and telephone cables.
Mark the location of the fiber optic networks and telephone cables using marking paint and/or marking flags according to adopted color codes and marking procedures in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Remove and reinstall NMCI drops as requested by the customer to desired locations.
Install new NMCI and fiber drops into buildings as requested by the customer to desired locations.
Communicate with contractors, agencies, and customers as needed.
Respond to emergency locate requests and prioritize work.
Required Skills & Experience
Clearance Required: Secret
Minimum of an Interim Secret is required to start
High school diploma and 2+ years of related experience required
Experience terminating Cat5e /Cat6 and fiber (SM/MM) connections
Ability to climb ladders and use hand tools
Desired Skills & Experience
Experienced with Fiber Optic data center network infrastructure
1 to 3 years of relevant experience with telecommunications cable installation and repair

Compensation The proposed salary for this position is: $47,500 USD - $71,300 USD
