Communication Arts Part-Time Lecturer – Film Studies (Academic Year 2025-2026)
University of the Incarnate Word invites part‑time faculty to join the School of Media & Design’s Department of Communication Arts. The lecturer will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in film studies, including film history, criticism and analysis, film theory, and genre studies. The position reports to the Dean of the School of Media & Design and is eligible for the 2025‑2026 Academic Year.
Position Summary The department seeks a faculty candidate with an MFA or MA in Film Studies, Cinema, or a related field and demonstrated teaching experience at the college or university level. The lecturer will design and deliver engaging, interactive lectures, administer assessments, and support students outside class (1 hour per 3‑hour class, physically or electronically). The instructor will collaborate with faculty to ensure curriculum outcomes and maintain professional ethics consistent with UIW Mission.
Essential Functions
Prepare course outlines and teach based on approved departmental syllabi.
Administer timely and meaningful assessments for assigned courses.
Collaborate with departmental faculty to meet standard curriculum outcomes.
Be available outside of class to assist students (1 hour per 3‑hour class, physically or electronically).
Adhere to UIW Faculty Handbook policies, maintain student records, and provide timely feedback.
Conduct respectful relationships with faculty, staff, and students.
Maintain contact with the department chair and participate in meetings upon request.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
MFA or MA in Film Studies, Cinema, or related field.
Demonstrated teaching experience at the college or university level; graduate teaching or relevant TA experience considered.
Ability to effectively learn and use instructional technology.
Willingness and flexibility to teach day, evening, and weekend sections as needed.
Ability to incorporate technology into teaching.
Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
Employee must adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.
Preferred Qualifications
PhD in Film Studies.
