Role Summary The Retirement RFP Writer plays a strategic role in fueling the growth of National Life Group’s Retirement Business. By producing high‑quality, compliant, and compelling proposals, this position directly contributes to new plan acquisition, client retention, and the company’s competitive positioning in the 403(b), 457(b), and institutional retirement markets. As part of the Retirement Solutions Team, the writer responds to RFPs, RFIs, and due‑diligence questionnaires, maintains a proposal database, manages project timelines, and ensures all proposals meet the firm’s high standards of quality.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Collaborate with Head of Retirement Solutions, Relationship Managers, Retiree Consultants, VP of Retirement Business, Legal, and Distribution Leaders to respond to requests aimed at acquiring and retaining retirement business at the institutional level.

Source and author RFPs, standard proposals, and ad‑hoc requests for plan maintenance and business development opportunities.

Work with internal subject‑matter experts to prepare, consolidate, proof, print, and ship responses.

Update the RFP database with the latest answers and navigate/ update AI tools to enhance future responses.

Provide weekly progress reports and monthly updates on RFP status.

Source key resources such as BidPrime and other industry databases to find relevant RFPs and pre‑qualify National Life Group responses.

Support Retirement Services with marketing content, materials, and efforts.

Maintain current and accurate proposal answer and standard proposal templates.

Improve NLG’s win rate and competitiveness through high‑quality, on‑time RFP submissions.

Maintain 100% SLA compliance on proposal delivery deadlines.

Partner with Field and RM teams to ensure accurate plan implementation and onboarding readiness.

Minimum Qualifications

B.A. in Marketing, Communication, Journalism, Writing or equivalent work experience.

Five years of investment or annuity industry experience with a minimum of three years in RFP or investment marketing project engineering / project management.

Strong organizational and time‑management skills.

Effective written and verbal communication skills for interfacing with client partners and SME collaborators.

Familiarity with proposal software and investment products in the retirement space.

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to work autonomously on multiple investment projects simultaneously.

Capacity to become the subject‑matter expert on National Life Group’s full menu of retirement products.

Experience in a fast‑paced environment with tight deadlines.

High level of attention to detail and organizational skills.

Excellent communication skills and ability to stay calm under pressure.

Proficiency in quickly creating concise, well‑written responses to RFP information requirements.

Proficiency in navigating and farm multiple databases for reporting and tracking purposes.

Strong Word‑processing skills with the ability to edit and format documents quickly.

Desire to expand industry knowledge.

Willingness to travel up to 15%.

Compensation and Additional Benefits Base Pay Range: $73,125 – $107,250 USD. The total compensation package may include medical, financial, and other benefits such as 401(k) eligibility, paid time off, parental leave, and discretionary annual incentive programs, subject to program rules. The employee will be in an at‑will position.
