Mechanical Designer

– Support the design and development of mechanical systems and components for electrical power distribution equipment, including switchgear, circuit breaker retrofit/retrofills, segregated and non-segregated phase bus, and iso‑phase bus (IPB) systems. This position plays a key role in supporting RMS Energy’s continued growth by contributing to innovative, cost‑effective, and high‑quality engineering solutions for our customers.

What You’ll Do

Support engineering design and analysis for mechanical components of electrical power systems

Create 3D models and detailed drawings for mechanical portions of electrical projects

Prepare drawing packages and installation plans for equipment upgrades, repairs, and modifications

Coordinate designs with customers, manufacturing, and field teams to optimize cost and efficiency

Specify and procure hardware and specialty components from vendors

Review site drawings and documentation to recommend modifications and improvements

Ensure designs meet industry standards, ratings, and customer specifications

Travel to jobsites to gather data and support design, installation, and commissioning

Provide technical expertise and field support during installation and troubleshooting

Maintain strong safety practices when working around energized equipment

The Experience We’re Looking For

Familiarity with electrical power systems and equipment desired

Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)

Understanding of electrical system hazards and commitment to safe work practices

Strong collaboration skills with ability to work effectively on multidisciplinary teams

Professional and effective communication with internal and external stakeholders

Strong organizational and time‑management skills; able to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines

Self‑driven with ability to work independently and with minimal supervision

Additional Requirements

Willingness to travel up to 15% across the continental U.S. as needed

Valid U.S. driver’s license with a clean driving record

Ability to pass a background check and drug screening

Requires good vision, hearing, and English proficiency for safe, effective communication in noisy environments

Bonus Points For

Experience with SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD Mechanical, AutoCAD, or similar modeling tools

Experience in mechanical design of electrical distribution equipment or part fabrication
