Designer – Boston studio We are presently searching for a Designer for our Boston studio. The Designer, working under general supervision of a Senior Designer or Project Manager, provides design support primarily in project administration, presentations, concept design through design development, and contract documents.
Responsibilities Work with the team to develop architectural concepts for interior and exterior repositioning and adaptive projects.
Develop design ideas and create both presentation and construction drawings.
Draft technical drawings.
For smaller projects may oversee all design and drawing.
Review engineering and landscape drawings to ensure they comply with design solution.
Research and select fixtures and finishes for projects.
Ensure integration into overall design.
Prepare preliminary concept plans for larger projects.
Develop and finalize conceptual design for smaller projects.
Oversee Intermediate Designer to review space plans and tackle more complicated issues.
Provide detail for interior and architectural design projects.
Develop and deliver overall design and furniture packages for both interior and exterior.
Assist in developing packages for larger projects.
Obtain cost estimates and produce final cost estimates.
Assist with support for field surveys.
Manage design budget for assigned projects.
Ensure adherence to set budget and immediately inform Senior Designer, PM and/or client of any potential variances to the budget.
Mentor the work of Junior and Intermediate Designers.
Oversee tasks and provide feedback on work product.
Conduct client interviews to determine space needs and requirements; good working knowledge of Affinity program tool.
Qualifications Graduate of architecture or design school; equivalent experience may be substituted.
6+ years’ experience in workplace design, focusing on building repositioning and adaptive re-use projects as well as corporate interior.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Extensive knowledge of design principles, workplace trends and aesthetics.
Extensive knowledge of repositioning and adaptive re-use projects.
Advanced presentation skills.
Advanced knowledge of space planning.
Extensive knowledge of furnishings and finishes.
Extensive knowledge of concepts of furniture layout.
Advanced sketching and rendering skills.
Advanced architecture detailing skills.
Extensive knowledge of CDs and procedures.
Extensive knowledge of building systems, codes and ADA requirements.
Working knowledge of path of travel requirements.
Working knowledge of contract administration.
Intermediate MS Office Suite skills.
Advanced Revit skills.
Advanced Adobe Creative Suite skills.
