Senior Motion Designer
As a Senior Motion Designer within the CNN Design group, your primary focus is to create innovative, effective and arresting design in all aspects of television and studio production for CNN programs, specials and documentaries. You are a world‑class motion designer with strong professional experience, passionate about upholding CNN’s standards and contributing to the creative motion direction of key projects. You are a motion generalist proficient in 2D and 3D, comfortable designing for television and familiar with all aspects of the design and production process.
Your Role Accountabilities
The Senior Motion Designer will work collaboratively with the creative team and editorial partners to develop concepts and motion graphics for show opens, transitions, explainer graphics and scenic studio graphics. You will work fluidly between 2D and 3D animation styles.
You will have the exciting opportunity to design and develop looks and packages for news programs, special events and documentaries, working with creative directors, producers and editors to deliver animated graphics.
He/She is expected to stay abreast of industry trends, new practices and design/production tools, and to be an experienced problem solver who can translate conceptual ideas into creative solutions.
The role requires a high level of collaboration and the ability to articulate design concepts to team members and clients in a deadline‑driven environment.
The ideal candidate has a passion for design, news and entertainment with excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
Qualifications & Experience
BA/BS, BFA or MFA in motion design, animation, graphic design, or relevant experience.
At least 5 years of professional experience producing high‑end creative work for television.
Expert proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including After Effects, Photoshop and Illustrator.
Expert knowledge of Maxon Cinema 4D with Redshift (or other accelerated renderers) for motion design is preferred.
Expert knowledge of plugins such as Red Giant, Boris FX, Sapphire, AE Expression, C4D Expresso, X‑Particles, etc.
Well‑rounded conceptual designer proficient in motion design, typography, color theory, illustration, photography and layout.
Experience managing multiple projects with fast‑changing deliverables and tight delivery times.
Strong understanding of compositing techniques.
Flexible schedule required.
Strong design/production portfolio required.
Self‑motivated, positive attitude, strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to an inclusive workplace.
