Overview

• Salary range: $31.25 - $32.75 per hour (non‑negotiable) depending on qualifications.
• Position scheduled to close on 12/4/2025 at 4:00 pm (PST).
• KPBS serves the greater San Diego community with television, radio, and web programming and is licensed to San Diego State University.
• The Production Services department oversees content for TV, radio, digital media, post‑production, field production, graphics, studio rental, and projects coordination.
• This position is covered under the SAG‑AFTRA collective bargaining agreement with KPBS.

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Production Services Manager, the Videographer/Studio Technician participates as technical crew in KPBS studio and field productions and other special shows, events, and projects. The role includes camera operation, lighting, editing, technical directing, audio production, graphics, studio maintenance, teleprompter use, and associated tasks. Responsibilities also involve mentoring student assistants.

Videography and Production (45%)

• Operate studio and field video cameras to capture high‑quality footage.
• Design, transport, set up, and operate production equipment including audio and lighting.
• Design studio/location lighting and sets.
• Participate as technical crew in studio productions and special events.
• Work individually or with producers, reporters, and clients on all aspects of audio and video production.
• Contribute to pre‑production planning and development.

Post Production & Media Management (25%)

• Perform computer edits of video segments on various digital formats/software.
• Assist in media management of digital assets and the KPBS library.
• Participate in post‑production analysis and critique sessions.
• Perform technical evaluation of programs to assure compliance with station and network standards.

Technical Operations & Support (20%)

• Perform first‑line corrective and preventive maintenance on video, audio, and studio production equipment; complete maintenance reports.
• Assist with upkeep and repair of studio and production sets and properties.
• Maintain equipment inventory and manage field and studio production schedules.

Other Duties and Responsibilities (10%)

• Provide professional customer service to clients and external partners.
• Mentor part‑time production assistants.
• Perform miscellaneous job‑related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Abilities

• Demonstrated working knowledge of production techniques and equipment for studio and field production.
• Ability to learn, understand, and apply techniques throughout the production cycle.
• Knowledge of professional audio and/or video editing software and post‑production procedures.
• Ability to configure, operate, and maintain studio and/or field audio, lighting, and production equipment.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong organizational skills to coordinate radio and television production schedules, budgets, and projects.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including written communication.
• Ability to work weekends, holidays, overtime, early and late shifts when requested.

Minimum Experience

• 6 months of experience in media production focused in one or more core areas (pre‑production, photography, videographic design, multimedia, post‑production, or distance learning).

Minimum Education

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
