Junior Library Custodian – Brooklyn Public Library
This full‑time, union, non‑exempt position is based in Brooklyn, NY and earns a salary of $39,062.40.
Responsibilities:
- Cleaning and maintenance of library buildings and grounds, including interior, exterior, roofs, and ensuring a safe, clean environment.
- Make recommendations for repairs and maintenance upkeep.
- Perform minor repairs and replace equipment as required.
- Set up rooms and move furniture and equipment.
- Maintain inventories and records, order supplies, and prepare required reports.
- Enforce safety requirements and protect the building and grounds.
- Remove graffiti, comply with fire department inspections, perform multiple clean‑ups of grounds, and assist with construction activities.
- Open doors for staff, UPS, FedEx, bottled water deliveries, and set up; monitor buildings for DDC and construction activities.
- Perform proper recycling, sorting, garbage disposal, and assist with interchange and deliveries.
- Frequently bend, kneel, and crouch; may require travel between multiple locations.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent (required).
- Minimum of 1 year custodial‑related experience.
- Working knowledge of custodial tasks, operations and equipment.
- Meet physical and medical requirements; able to lift moderate to heavy material and objects up to 60 lbs.
- Able to bend, stand, and move for long periods in all weather conditions.
- Ability to use and operate tools and equipment needed for custodial tasks.
- Work independently and collaborate with others; strong oral and written communication skills.
- Available to work all shifts, including holidays, Saturdays and Sundays (different shifts available).
