We are seeking a passionate and experienced Music Instructor to lead individual and group lessons, develop engaging curriculum and assessments, and build collaborative community partnerships. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in music education, performance experience, and a commitment to fostering a positive learning environment aligned with The Salvation Army’s mission.

The position works up to 18 hours a week with a pay rate of $20‑$23 per hour, depending on skills and experience.

Job Objective

The music instructor will be responsible for teaching group and/or individual music lessons, developing curriculum and assessments, and establishing collaborative partnerships within the community.

Essential Job Duties

• Teach individual and/or group music lessons.
• Design and implement curriculum, assessment rubrics, and lesson plans; provide regular activity reports to the Arts & Education Manager.
• Develop and implement ongoing collaborative partnerships for music programming with schools and organizations.
• Participate actively in recruitment and outreach efforts as directed by the Arts & Education Manager.
• Attend assigned staff meetings.
• Teach additional classes and workshops as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

• Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Music, or equivalent qualified performance experience.

Experience

• Three years required, five years preferred of teaching experience either in a classroom setting or private/group lessons.
• Record of musical performance experience.
• Evidence of experience in curriculum development.

• Ability to work with children, parents, and staff in a leadership capacity.
• Self‑starter with initiative.
• Performance experience in the specific teaching content area.
• Timeliness in starting class with room set‑up and reset.
• Working knowledge of music literature.
• Philosophy of education and child development aligned with The Salvation Army.
• Positive attitude and flexibility.
• Willingness to promote the mission of the Salvation Army.
• Safe from Harm certification within 60 days of hire.

Physical Requirements

• Satisfactory speaking, hearing, and vision; excellent manual dexterity.
• Lifting, pulling, and pushing up to 25 pounds.
• Requires bending, squatting, and walking.
• Standing for extended periods of time.

Other Information

• Supervisory responsibility: None.
• Travel: None.
• Working Conditions: Performed at the Wisconsin & Upper Michigan Division Kroc Center (Green Bay) in an office environment at normal room temperature; noise level usually low. For outdoor special events and community center activities, exposure to weather conditions; noise level moderate to loud.
