We are seeking a passionate and experienced Music Instructor to lead individual and group lessons, develop engaging curriculum and assessments, and build collaborative community partnerships. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in music education, performance experience, and a commitment to fostering a positive learning environment aligned with The Salvation Army’s mission.
The position works up to 18 hours a week with a pay rate of $20‑$23 per hour, depending on skills and experience.
Job Objective
The music instructor will be responsible for teaching group and/or individual music lessons, developing curriculum and assessments, and establishing collaborative partnerships within the community.
Essential Job Duties
- Teach individual and/or group music lessons.
- Design and implement curriculum, assessment rubrics, and lesson plans; provide regular activity reports to the Arts & Education Manager.
- Develop and implement ongoing collaborative partnerships for music programming with schools and organizations.
- Participate actively in recruitment and outreach efforts as directed by the Arts & Education Manager.
- Attend assigned staff meetings.
- Teach additional classes and workshops as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Music, or equivalent qualified performance experience.
Experience
- Three years required, five years preferred of teaching experience either in a classroom setting or private/group lessons.
- Record of musical performance experience.
- Evidence of experience in curriculum development.
Competencies And Skills
- Ability to work with children, parents, and staff in a leadership capacity.
- Self‑starter with initiative.
- Performance experience in the specific teaching content area.
- Timeliness in starting class with room set‑up and reset.
- Working knowledge of music literature.
- Philosophy of education and child development aligned with The Salvation Army.
- Positive attitude and flexibility.
- Willingness to promote the mission of the Salvation Army.
- Safe from Harm certification within 60 days of hire.
Physical Requirements
- Satisfactory speaking, hearing, and vision; excellent manual dexterity.
- Lifting, pulling, and pushing up to 25 pounds.
- Requires bending, squatting, and walking.
- Standing for extended periods of time.
Other Information
- Supervisory responsibility: None.
- Travel: None.
- Working Conditions: Performed at the Wisconsin & Upper Michigan Division Kroc Center (Green Bay) in an office environment at normal room temperature; noise level usually low. For outdoor special events and community center activities, exposure to weather conditions; noise level moderate to loud.
