About The Information
The Information is the go-to source of in-depth reporting for the most influential leaders in technology and business. Founded in 2013 and headquartered in San Francisco, our original, high-quality journalism has the power to inform the most consequential decisions shaping our future, and we’ve built a community of 700,000 active readers who depend on us to do just that. We have a financially healthy business, plenty of capital, and big ambitions to grow our team and business.
About The Role
Another boomtime has come to Silicon Valley—one unlike any other. With an unprecedented amount of capital going to fund the AI era and crypto prices soaring, the tech elite have never been richer, and our Weekend section is looking for an ambitious reporter to chronicle the pastimes and pursuits of the technorati. This person should have infinite curiosity about the many, many answers to these overlapping questions: How do Silicon Valley’s wealthiest people live their lives—and what do they spend their money on? This reporter will deliver must-read stories that offer a definitive examination of these new masters of the universe, looking at everything from what they buy to how they exercise to where they travel and dine.
What You’ll Do
- Write two to three stories a month for Weekend—with a priority on exclusive, scoopy features that shed new light on how the rich and famous of Silicon Valley are spending their money.
- Contribute to Weekend’s weekly newsletter.
- Collaborate widely with The Information’s editors and other reporters, drawing on the collective wisdom and knowledge of Silicon Valley’s most authoritative newsroom.
- Appear on TITV, The Information’s daily live video show, to discuss your stories and other topics on your beat.
Qualifications
- At least two years of newsroom experience—ideally covering tech or the Bay Area.
- A willingness to work closely with editors to craft high-impact stories living up to The Information’s brand of exclusive journalism. You should be comfortable being edited to the highest expectations of magazine-style journalism—and thrive on that type of collaboration.
What Success Looks Like In Your First 3‑6 Months
We’re a fast‑paced, high‑metabolism newsroom, and so is our weekly Weekend section. You should be ready to hit the ground running and publishing by the end of your first month. By month three, you should have a healthy pipeline of stories as you comfortably multi‑task and juggle stories in different stages of completion. Within half a year, we’d hope your well‑developed pipeline has produced some of our most‑read pieces, establishing you as an authority.
Why Join Us?
At The Information, you’ll have the opportunity to work with a team of passionate professionals, shaping the future of tech and business journalism.
