Responsibilities
- Research, analyze, and verify technical data to bring manuals to required standards ensuring accuracy of information.
- Communicate with appropriate departments and coordinate production and distribution of materials.
- Conduct parts research for mechanical and electrical systems and equipment.
- Interface with customer personnel, vendors, and military personnel.
- Revise or write standardized material for manuals, instruction books and related technical publications concerned with work methods and procedures, and installation, operation, and maintenance of machinery and other equipment.
- Receive technical direction from supervisor or senior writer, notes, manuals containing operating procedures, detailed manufacturer's catalogs, drawings and other data relative to operation, maintenance, and service of equipment.
- Access to blueprints, sketches, drawings, parts lists, specifications, mockups, and product samples to integrate and delineate technology, operating procedure, and production sequence and detail.
- Must be able to travel occasionally.
Minimum Qualifications
- 2+ years of technical writer experience.
- Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office products, specifically MSWord.
- Experience in the development of technical documents to specified military standards.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Arbortext 8.3 and above. Understanding of SGML.
- Knowledge of the military, commercial and recreational marine industry in boats under 200 feet.
- Working knowledge of Google Office Products.
- Experience in Quality Assurance of technical documentation.
- Ability to comprehend mechanical and electrical system and equipment drawings.
Clearance Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship required and an active Secret security clearance.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit at a desk or workstation for extended periods while working on a computer.
- Perform equipment validations on boats either on trailers or in the water.
- Ability to transport and lift up to 30 lbs.
- Ability to climb up to three (3) flights of stairs.
- Crawling and maneuvering in confined spaces or bilge areas, if required.
