Base pay range $86,008.00 per year - $143,353.60 per year
Reporting to the Director of Editorial & Development Strategy, the Senior Associate Director plays a key role on the Editorial team in Marketing and Communications at Children's National Hospital Foundation. Engages and inspires donors to support the hospital's mission to improve children's health through strategic messaging, storytelling and significant fundraising solicitations. As an experienced development writer and editor, develops major gift proposals, stewardship reports, talking points, magazine stories, media releases, ads and other high-impact marketing communications across all channels. Collaborates with hospital and Foundation leaders, fundraisers, graphic designers and other stakeholders. This role requires an excellent command of language, the ability to successfully translate pediatric and scientific information through compelling narratives on deadline, initiative, creative thinking, a high degree of independence and mentoring of junior writers.
Minimum Education
Bachelor's Degree (Required)
Minimum Work Experience
5 years experience writing in a professional setting (Required)
3 years experience in development (fundraising, donor relations) preferably in a healthcare setting (Required)

Excellent writing and editing skills; delivery of clear, concise, compelling copy
Ability to translate complex pediatric research and clinical information
Knack for finding and telling compelling stories

Functional Accountabilities Operations
Partner with hospital faculty and Foundation staff to produce high-quality donor-facing products
Serve as a collaborative and proactive member of the Editorial & Development Strategy team to write, edit and produce marketing and communications projects
Serve as a resource to elevate writing across Children’s National Hospital Foundation
Engage in high-level research to prepare accurate, compelling proposals, reports and other products that advance fundraising priorities to support patients and families
Lead communications for events, campaigns and other Foundation functions
Use measurement, recording and project management systems to ensure clear, accurate reporting of solicitation and stewardship activities
Customer Service
Provide the highest level of service to internal and external constituent groups including donors, board members, hospital leadership, faculty and vendors
Quality Assurance
Ensure that messaging, funding requests and stewardship reports meet the highest level of accuracy, quality and attentiveness to donor interests, wishes and needs
Actively manage portfolio of projects, deliver finished work in a timely and high-quality manner
Work carefully to produce, review and seek reviews for materials for quality assurance
Organizational Accountabilities Deliver
Set and clearly communicate team goals and priorities in alignment with departmental goals and budgets
Develop the budget and assign resources to meet the team goals
Provide the resources and guidance required for employees to perform effectively
Develop procedures to ensure high safety and quality, and course-correct as needed
