Our mission at the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) is to serve, protect and advance the citizens and industries in the state with quality motor vehicle related services. We are a dynamic state agency dedicated to customer service, consumer protection and the success of motor vehicle‑related industries.

Essentials Duties:

Develop, maintain, and secure both legacy and modern enterprise‑level web applications and websites for TxDMV.

Manage website infrastructure, including traditional server‑based hosting (IIS, Apache, Nginx) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Vercel, Netlify).

Ensure security and compliance, implementing firewalls, authentication protocols, data encryption, and best practices for legacy and modern web architectures.

Optimize and maintain traditional websites built with ASP.NET, PHP, and JavaScript, while modernizing web applications using React.js, Next.js, Vue.js, and Tailwind CSS.

Develop and integrate AI‑powered tools, such as AI‑based search, chatbots, automation scripts, and predictive analytics.

Support and enhance legacy applications, ensuring they remain secure, efficient, and integrated with modern technologies.

Manage databases, including SQL‑based databases (SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Firebase, Redis).

Implement and maintain APIs, supporting REST, GraphQL, SOAP, and JSON‑based microservices for seamless integration.

Ensure compliance with Texas Department of Information Resources accessibility standards, WCAG 2.1, and Section 508.

Develop mobile‑friendly applications, ensuring full responsiveness across traditional browsers and modern devices.

Provide guidance and mentorship to junior developers and IT team members.

Stay updated on industry trends, evaluating when to retain, upgrade, or replace legacy technologies.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Legacy Web Technologies:

HTML, CSS, JavaScript (including jQuery); PHP, ASP.NET, and Classic ASP; Traditional CMS platforms (WordPress, Joomla, Drupal); SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle databases; IIS and Apache web servers.

Modern Web Technologies:

JavaScript frameworks (React.js, Next.js, Vue.js, Angular); CSS frameworks (Tailwind CSS, Bootstrap, Material UI);‑side development (Node.js, Express.js, Python – Django/Flask); Headless CMS platforms (Strapi, Contentful, Sanity); Cloud-based hosting (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Vercel, Netlify); API development (REST, GraphQL, WebSockets); DevOps tools (Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, Jenkins, GitHub Actions); AI and Automation (OpenAI API, ChatGPT, Rasa; Elasticsearch, Google AI Search; predictive load balancing, auto‑scaling; TensorFlow.js, PyTorch); Security best practices (SSL/TLS, OAuth, JWT, SAML); Web application firewalls (WAF); Secure coding; Penetr testing tools (OWASP ZAP, Burp Suite).

Experience and Responsibilities:

Balancing legacy system maintenance with modern technology adoption; Developing AI‑driven solutions to automate web administration tasks; Optimizing website performance, reducing load times, and ensuring full browser and device compatibility; Debugging and troubleshooting across old and new web stacks; Deploying applications to both traditional servers and serverless cloud environments; Migrating legacy applications into modern, scalable architectures; Evaluating new technologies while maintaining legacy compatibility; Communicating technical concepts effectively to stakeholders; Developing roadmaps for transitioning legacy web technologies to modern standards; Staying informed on emerging AI, cloud computing, and web development trends.

Qualifications – Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer information systems, management information systems, or a related field, plus five (5) years of experience developing and supporting website and web‑based software applications. Experience may be substituted for education on a year‑per‑year basis.

Preferred Certifications (not required):

Certified Web Professional – Web Administrator (CWP‑WA); Microsoft Certified: Azure Developer Associate; AWS Certified Developer – Associate; Google Professional Cloud Developer; AI/ML certifications (Coursera, Udacity, AWS AI Certification).

Additional Information:

Telecommuting may be necessary due to current building construction in Austin headquarters or limited space availability at Regional Service Centers/TxDMV Offices.
