Project Manager I - Transit & Urban Design
Join HNTB as a Project Manager I focusing on Transit & Urban Design projects. HNTB delivers solutions for large infrastructure projects and is an employee‑owned company.
Responsibilities
Responsible for development of the project scope and fee quotation; assists in the preparation of technical proposals and contracts in accordance with HNTB’s Sophisticated Contracting Approach (SCA).
Serves as the primary client liaison and manages the project team to deliver the scope, schedule, and budgets; assists with client project scoping and contract negotiations.
Leads and prepares design documents, technical plans, and written reports.
Implements the firm’s project delivery plan using HNTB’s Sophisticated Delivery Approach (SDA); leads development and execution of the project management plan; supervises and mentors the team.
Performs coordination with managers on project staffing, recruitment, hiring, development, retention, and succession of project staff; develops reporting plans and supports performance and compensation reviews.
Partners with Client Service Leaders and pursuit champions to assist with business development, building client relationships and pursuit efforts for strategic and mini‑mega projects; prepares proposals and interview presentations.
May be responsible for recruitment, hiring, development and retention of staff; develops reporting plans, performance and compensation reviews, and succession.
Typically responsible for management of project team(s) for one or more strategic projects ( $1M to

Educational & Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Landscape Architecture, Urban Design, Engineering, Geology, Biology, Environmental Science, Anthropology, Archaeology, or related field.
8 years of relevant experience.
2 years of task management or Deputy PM experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Business, Project Management, Landscape Architecture, Planning, Urban Design, or related field.
American Institute of Certified Planner (AICP), Registered Landscape Architect (RLA), Registered Architect (RA), Certified Environmental Professional (CEP).
Winning record in contracting and delivering “4‑for‑4” outcomes on smaller projects.
