Public Safety Communications Operator (Full‑Time)
Join the City of Tallahassee as a Public Safety Communications Operator in our Consolidated Dispatch Agency (CDA), a joint agency serving Tallahassee and Leon County.
As the first point of contact in emergency situations, you will support police, sheriff, fire, and EMS response efforts for the community.
Base Pay Range:
$18.69/hr – $50.74/hr (hiring rate generally not to exceed $22.75/hr). Pay is based on experience and skill level.
What You’ll Do
Answer and process emergency and non‑emergency calls using multi‑line telephone and radio systems.
Document and relay information accurately through computer‑aided dispatch (CAD) software.
Follow established procedures and federal, state, and local guidelines.
Remain calm, clear, and effective in high‑pressure, fast‑changing situations.
Work Hours and Schedule
Fixed 12‑hour shift: 6:00 AM–6:00 PM or 6:00 PM–6:00 AM.
Cover every other weekend as part of your rotation.
May be required to respond to emergency events outside scheduled shifts.
Requirements
Earn the State of Florida Public Safety Telecommunications Certification within 6 months of hire.
Complete criminal history review, medical and drug screenings, psychological evaluation, CVSA, and dispatching skills assessment.
