Job Overview:
The Library Media Clerk will assist with ordering, receiving, processing, and circulating library books, textbooks, media, instructional materials, supplies, and equipment for summer school classes and after‑school programs. The role supports library operations and student learning during the 6/9/2026–7/2/2026 summer school term.
Responsibilities
Perform general clerical duties in the library.
Assist with supervision of students in the library.
Create and maintain computerized records for inventory and circulation of library/textbook, media, instructional materials, testing, and equipment.
Inventories, order, process, and distribute library books, textbooks, media, instructional materials, testing materials, and equipment for regular day, after school program, and summer school classes.
Maintain statistics and prepare reports related to materials and digital programs/materials.
Reinforce library skills and provide literature appreciation, including reading aloud at scheduled times.
Check materials in and out to staff and students.
Shelves materials according to library organizational system and keep library in good order.
Inspect and repair books/materials; perform minor repairs and report needed repairs.
Maintain records and collect money for lost or damaged library/textbooks and books/materials.
Attend monthly library media clerk meetings to share best practices and stay current on district curriculum and instruction programs, state standards, and materials.
Knowledge & Abilities
Understand and apply library operation and organization, including the Dewey Decimal System.
Correct English usage and math skills; strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency with general office machines and data entry.
General knowledge of child development principles and effective instructional techniques.
Ability to
Understand and carry out oral and written directions independently.
Read, interpret, and apply instructions, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Plan, prioritize, and organize work to meet deadlines.
Analyze and take appropriate action regarding routine or emergency situations.
Provide clear and courteous directions to students.
Communicate effectively with students, staff, parents, and the public.
Maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff, and parents.
Speak, read, and write in English to a level necessary for job duties.
Education & Experience Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent; NCLB compliant.
Experience:
One year of clerical/library work, preferably in a school library setting.
Physical Demands This job requires standing, walking, using hands to manipulate objects, and occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds. Reasonable accommodations are available.
Work Environment The work environment is moderate noise level, occasionally loud, and requires good vision, color perception, and depth perception.
NCLB Compliance Requirements
Submit HSD or equivalent; one of the following: unofficial transcripts (48+ semester units), AA degree or higher, or NCLB Exam Certificate.
Proof of HS graduation (HSD, High School Transcripts, or equivalent).
Summer School Dates:
6/9/2026 – 7/2/2026 (June 19th is a holiday).
