Description

About You

You are a creator, problem solver, and systems thinker. You don't just design interfaces; you craft experiences that are intuitive, elegant, and impactful. You care about understanding users deeply and translating that understanding into products that make lives better.

You thrive in environments where there's no established design system and are energized by building one from the ground up. You have the confidence to define how design should function within a company, the humility to collaborate with engineers and product managers, and the pragmatism to identify and focus on the highest-impact priorities.

You understand design is a lever for business results, not just aesthetics. You are comfortable supporting broad transformation but know how to drive change incrementally and efficiently. You navigate the challenge of evangelizing for UX/UI design with clarity and focus.

What You'll Do

As Senior UX/UI Designer, you will be responsible for the boots-on-the-ground work of standing up end-to-end product design at RSM and shaping the experience for thousands of students, parents, teachers, and staff. This is a critical role to establish and operationalize UX/UI discipline for all user-facing portals, including new and existing products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up and operationalize qualitative and quantitative customer feedback loops. Work with our researcher and PMs to identify and prioritize opportunities for improving usability, adoption, and satisfaction across student, parent, teacher, and staff portals.
  • Redesign and deliver new and enhanced product components, moving quickly from insight to execution, iterating with real users.
  • Build out core design tools, processes, and reusable design systems so product design is trusted and effective across the org.
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration with a front-end engineering team of ~10, 2 senior PMs, part-time researcher and designer support, and direct guidance from the Fractional product leader (your manager and design advocate).
  • Hold significant autonomy on workflows and primary decision-making power on design decisions, with the expectation that you champion best practices and help set strategic product priorities.
  • Educate and align the broader organization on the value and mechanics of product design, balancing influence with clear, evidence-driven rationale for decisions.
  • Ensure accessibility and inclusivity by embedding those principles in how we build for diverse learners and stakeholders.
Where You'll Work

The Russian School of Mathematics (RSM) is one of the fastest-growing and most respected after school math programs in the U.S., serving thousands of students across more than 80 locations.

Our mission is to build strong mathematical foundations in students, empowering them with problem-solving skills that last a lifetime. As a Senior UX/UI Designer, you'll play a pivotal role in leveraging design to enhance student learning, improve teacher experiences, and engage parents in their children's educational journeys. You'll have an immense opportunity for impact as the first dedicated design hire shaping both strategic and day-to-day design practice.

Who Should Apply?
  • Experienced UX/UI designers (5+ years) who have delivered measurable user or business outcomes and are skilled at instituting design processes in organizations new to UX/UI.
  • Product designers who want end-to-end ownership across research, design, and delivery, and are comfortable with ambiguity, educating stakeholders, and influencing engineering and product peers.
  • Those with interest in education and designing for broad, diverse user groups, even if your most recent experience is not edtech-specific.
  • Individuals seeking to lay the groundwork for a scalable design function and potentially grow into a formal design leadership role as the team scales.
What to Expect:
  • High autonomy, direct access to decision-makers, and clear support from product leadership.
  • Broad surface area and competing priorities; your ability to focus effort will set the pace for organizational change.
  • Opportunity to directly impact RSM's digital transformation as we build a design-driven culture.

RSM embraces diversity and is committed to attracting qualified candidates who also embrace and value diversity and inclusivity. RSM is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer
