Professional General Position Summary

:

The Court Communications Specialist position is responsible for creating clear, effective and timely messaging about Judicial Branch priorities and projects, and efficiently managing the distribution and display of those messages. This includes internal communications to judges, clerks and other court staff, and external communications to the public and other interested groups. This position plays a particular role in managing content on Judicial Branch websites and once developed, an intranet, as well as Judicial Branch newsletters and social media. The Court Communications Specialist works under the direction of the Court Communications Manager. This role also serves as a secondary point of contact for news media and others inquiring about the work of Idaho's state courts and backs up the Court Communications Manager. Through this work, this position supports the Supreme Court's goals of effective, innovative court services; increased access to the courts; and increased public trust and confidence through public engagement and awareness of the role and importance of Idaho's court system.

Major Duties and Responsibilities (The examples provided do not cover all of the duties which the incumbent of this position may be required to perform.) Converts written or spoken ideas, including complex technological and legal concepts, into understandable summaries, images, infographics, and other design elements; Plans, implements, and evaluates integrated, multi-audience communications in support of Judicial Branch goals, objectives, and priority programs; Develops layered, effective communications for judges, court staff and other Judicial Branch stakeholders to enhance their understanding of Judicial Branch priorities and projects; Works with Information Technology Division to manage internal and external website content; Updates and monitors social media outlets for the Idaho Judicial Branch; Develops, designs, and/or edits judicial branch publications; Creates multimedia elements and written content that capture the attention of various audiences and support the intended message; Conducts outreach with other justice partners to develop educational and informational materials for the public; Provides media assistance to the trial courts; Fills in for the Court Communications Manager when that role is absent or traveling. Minimum Qualifications The Idaho Supreme Court reserve the right to consider an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience necessary to successfully perform the major responsibilities of the position. Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or a related field; OR a bachelor's degree in a separate field combined with experience in a communications role; Three years of experience working in public information, internal communications, journalism or a similar communications role; Public sector experience preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of effective communication strategies and processes; Knowledge of best practices for internal communication across varied organizational structures; Knowledge of content management tools and best practices for websites, intranets and other digital portals; Knowledge of current social media platforms and their nuances; Knowledge of news media capabilities, procedures, and techniques; Knowledge of public information best practices; Knowledge of change management; Knowledge of Microsoft 365 products including office software and SharePoint; Knowledge of email marketing programs; Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud products; Knowledge of the Idaho Courts or of American legal systems preferred; Skill in communicating complex information, including but not limited to legal or technological information, in plain language; Skill in prioritizing competing information for display on websites, in newsletters and through other means; Skill in the creation of multimedia elements, including short-form video, audio and photography; Skill in communicating effectively verbally and in writing with employees, elected officials, other agencies, the news media, and the general public; Ability to maintain composure in stressful situations; Ability to work independently with minimal direction; Ability to prioritize multiple competing demands; Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with court personnel, managers, elected officials, and the media; Ability to interpret and translate complex material into information usable by others; Ability to present materials to groups and to the news media; Ability to maintain confidentiality; Performs other duties as assigned.
