We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Engineering Designer to join our ALRE group located in Rancho Bernardo, CA. Under general supervision, this position is responsible for providing material planning support and administration for research-related or production projects of moderate scope, including analysis reporting, expediting, and purchasing. Advises management of the status of work in progress and identifies potential project problems. Responsible for documenting findings, communicating results to engineering staff and may make technical design presentations as required. Typically has some intra-organizational contact and may have some customer contact. Essential Functions Develops design solutions for assigned structural products and components. Interacts with engineering staff on design concepts and progress. May be assigned design responsibility for a portion of a project or program. Develops layouts, sketches and blueprints and may investigate design factors such as damage tolerance, durability, and structural modeling. Details related structural assemblies, mechanisms, and devices. Validates conformity to design standards and specifications and identifies design errors and other deficiencies, and recommends changes. Provides documentation, identifies design issues, and makes technical design presentations to engineering staff as required. Remains current in CAD techniques and any applicable state of the art engineering design software applications. Job Qualifications Typically requires an Associates degree or a certificate from a recognized organization indicating completion of training in ProEngineer, CATIA or IDEAS design software plus eight or more years of progressive experience utilizing CAD software. Of those eight years, at least six months should be spent utilizing ProEngineer, CATIA or IDEAS engineering design software. Additional education may be substituted in lieu of work experience. Must have an understanding of engineering design concepts and principles, including ASME Y14.Must also be able to determine the appropriate approach at the task level or, with assistance, at the project level to provide solutions to a range of difficult problems. Must have good communication, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills, and excellent computer skills. Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance. Must be willing to work extended hours to meet deadlines and increase probability of project success. Must be customer focused and able to work on a self-initiated basis or in a team environment and able to work extended hours and travel as required.
