Assistant Professor of Music (Music Education Teacher)
FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
The Conservatory of Music of Brooklyn College - City University of New York (CUNY) invites applications for a full-time, tenure track position in Music Teacher Education (MTE). The appointment will be as Assistant Professor of Music.
The responsibilities of the MTE faculty will be directing our graduate and undergraduate Music Education programs, teaching Music Education courses and other courses, supervising student teachers, serving as academic advisor for Music Education students, and taking a primary role in revising our Music Education curricula. MTE faculty are expected to provide academic and career advisement to students and prepare them to achieve certification and employment as music educators.
The ideal candidate will have a doctorate in Music Teacher Education and college teaching experience. Experience teaching music K-12 in New York City public schools or another urban public school system is preferred. NY State teacher certification or eligibility is required. We are also especially interested in candidates with some experience in African American, Jazz, Latin, popular music, musical theater, music technology, or world musics.
The Conservatory of Music of Brooklyn College consists of 200 students from traditional and nontraditional backgrounds. QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum
Doctorate in Music Teacher Education
NY State Teacher Certification (K-12, Special Subjects) or eligibility
Preferred
Experience teaching in the New York City or another urban public school system
Some college level teaching experience
Some experience with curriculum design
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Sponsorship will not be offered for this position.
COMPENSATION
$79,598 - $102,017; Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
