Job Summary
This role will be responsible for creating and implementing an external media strategy that elevates the Farmers brand and highlights our value proposition for all stakeholder audiences, including agents, customers, and employees. It will initiate communication campaigns to build brand awareness and reputation, identify emerging trends, develop preventative measures, and maintain strong media relationships to consistently promote a favorable public perception. Additionally, this role oversees the external communications function, sets strategy and priorities for the team, and ensures the execution of business plans to achieve desired outcomes.
Essential Job Functions
Continuously monitor industry trends, current events, and potential risks to identify opportunities for proactive communication and mitigate potential crises.
Stay ahead of the curve by recognizing new communication channels and opportunities to leverage them for positive brand exposure.
Initiate strategic communication campaigns by actively developing compelling content and press releases to generate positive media coverage.
Develop clear, consistent messaging that resonates with target audiences across various communication platforms.
Cultivate strong relationships with journalists, influencers, and key stakeholders to secure favorable media placements, positive press coverage, and build trust.
Utilize analytics and insights to measure the effectiveness of PR campaigns and adjust strategies accordingly.
Align organizational goals and strategies, including proactive messaging, media outreach, and social media campaigns.
Advise senior leadership on public communication strategies and prepare them for media interviews.
Partner with marketing, distribution, and other departments to ensure aligned messaging and coordinated efforts.
Education Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, business, marketing, or a related field (preferred).
Experience Requirements
Minimum 7–10 years of experience in public relations, media strategy, or a related role, with a proven track record of success.
Agency experience preferred.
Experience directly and indirectly leading a cross‑functional team.
Working knowledge and understanding of how insurance and risk‑based entities function is required.
Ability to exercise good judgment on balancing aggressiveness and sensitivity with regard to media relations.
Physical Actions
This role, whether performed virtually or in an office setting, will include normal and customary distractions, noise, and interruptions. It involves sitting or standing for extended periods, occasionally reaching overhead or bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping. It also requires handling of objects weighing 0–10 pounds, using a computer, keyboard, and other office equipment for extended periods.

Salary ranges (subject to state/location): CA $173,440–$276,320; CO $162,640–$238,480; HI/IL/MN/VT $162,640–$255,090; MA $162,640–$255,090; MD $162,640–$255,090; DC/NJ/NY/OH $162,640–$276,320; Albany County, NY/Cleveland, OH $173,440–$238,480; WA $162,640–$289,875.
