Description

The Technical Illustrator is responsible for producing high-quality illustrations that support technical publications including helicopter components and assemblies, spare parts catalogs, maintenance manuals, flight manuals, and other aircraft-related graphics.

RHC Technical Publications provides critical information to Robinson Helicopter owners, operators, and maintenance personnel to ensure the airworthiness of our aircraft and the safety of the flying public. Because of this, RHC Technical Publications functions as one of the primary points of technical communication with our customers around the world.

Position Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and written instructions to develop accurate illustrations.
  • Create precise line drawings, vector graphics, and 3D representations of mechanical systems using Adobe Illustrator and related tools.
  • Translate complex technical information into clear, user-friendly visuals for a broad audience.
  • Incorporate labels, callouts, and explanatory text to ensure clarity and usability.
  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, and technical writers to ensure accuracy and alignment with project goals.
  • Deliver artwork for use in operations manuals, spare parts catalogs, maintenance instructions, training materials, and other technical publications across print and digital platforms.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Technical Illustration, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Commercial Art, Fine Arts (Illustration/Design), or a related field; 3+ years of experience preferred.
  • Strong drawing skills with the ability to produce accurate, high-quality artwork.
  • Ability to read blueprints and prepare preliminary parts lists.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and related design software.
  • Experience with 3D modeling software such as SolidWorks, Autodesk 3ds Max, or Maya.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Collaborative, team-oriented mindset with a positive attitude.

Work Contacts

Regular interaction with personnel in manufacturing, quality assurance, purchasing, facilities, sales, finance, human resources, and administration.

Physical Effort

  • Occasionally lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to remain seated or stationary approximately 75% of the time.
  • Occasional movement throughout the office and production areas.
  • Frequent use of computers and standard office equipment.
  • Must be able to effectively exchange information with staff and management.
