Position Overview
Be an Eagle – Where Purpose Takes Flight! Join North Carolina Central University (NCCU) as the Head Music Librarian to provide leadership, direction, and service for the Music Library and its resources, supporting the Music Department and the broader College.
Primary Purpose
The Head Music Librarian manages day‑to‑day operations, plans, develops, manages, and evaluates the library’s facilities, services, and resources. Responsibilities include providing research, instruction, and outreach to the Music Department; collaborating with staff across the College to implement information and instructional technologies; continually assessing and improving library services and web presence; teaching an information literacy course; selecting materials for the collection; providing reference assistance; and performing original and copy cataloging.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Minimum of two (2) years of post‑MLS/MLIS professional librarian experience.
- Experience or strong interest in music as an academic and/or performance discipline; familiarity with music research methods and resources.
- Undergraduate or advanced degree in music preferred, or a combination of relevant degrees and professional experience.
- Experience teaching workshops, supporting classes, supporting academic departments, creating learning materials, and providing research consultations.
- ALA‑Accredited Master’s degree required.
Minimum Education / Experience
