Responsibilities

Under supervision, the Library Specialist I will participate in multiple public, archival, or complex technical services responsibilities to serve library patrons and colleagues, using advanced skills. They coordinate tasks related to specialized aspects of the library/archive; interpret, develop and implement improvements in policies and workflows; assist patrons in the use of advanced library resources and handle complex requests; master multiple advanced technological applications; mentor and train other staff; create procedure manuals; recommend materials for library collections; liaise with vendors, publishers, suppliers and other libraries; demonstrate skills with financial functions depending on the library setting; and provide assistance to the supervisor. The role may require independent work during evenings/weekends, opening/closing tasks, and emergency or security‑related situations. Key technical services include sorting, adding new copies, maintaining statistics, creating labels, cataloging, mailing, resolving routine cataloging problems, file and record maintenance, material withdrawal procedures, addendums, minor repairs, and assistance with OverDrive, LibGuides, and e‑book management.

Qualifications

Baccalaureate degree. Three years of work experience in a library, archivist, museum, or customer service environment. Experience, in lieu of education, may be considered if the combination of undergraduate education and experience is equivalent to seven years. Experience leading others, serving on special work groups, and participating in continuing education. Employment experience in a medical library, archives, museum, or similar customer service environment. Employment experience working in a health care setting.

Compensation and Schedule

  • Compensation Detail: $22.83 - $32.71 / hour
  • Benefits Eligible: Yes
  • Schedule: Full Time, Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., 80 hours / pay period
