Statement of Duties
Summary Of Job Classification: Provides professional Realtime reporting and transcribing for court proceedings, hearings and conferences. Employees in this classification have obtained their Registered Professional Reporter (RPR) certification through the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA) and have a completion of at least 96% accuracy on one of the following examinations: Certified Realtime Reporter (CRR), Certified Broadcast Captioner (CBC), Certified CART Provider (CCP) through the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA); or the Federal Certified Realtime Reporter (FCRR).

There are four requisitions posted: Court Reporter I – Uncertified (Requisition Number: JD05888), Court Reporter II - Certified (Requisition Number: JD05889), Court Reporter III – Colorado Standard (Requisition Number: JD05890), and Court Reporter IV – CRR (Requisition Number: JD05891). We will fill one position within this series based on the district's hiring needs and the qualifications and relevant experience of the selected applicant.

Essential Functions
- Provides real time, verbatim court reporting services through stenographic shorthand for jury trials, preliminary hearings, motions hearings, and any applicable requested court proceedings.
- Manages and maintains records and prioritizes transcript production. Prepares required reports and documentation pursuant to Chief Justice Directive 05-03 and local policies and procedures.
- Ensures backup of all stenographic notes, rough drafts, and completed transcripts including reporter dictionaries, CAT software files, and stenographic machine files.
- Assists team members, works on various hearings and/or trials as a team, shares files and work product, and attends weekly meetings.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervisor Responsibilities
Work requires the occasional direction of helpers, assistants, seasonal employees, interns, or temporary employees. The work performed by the majority of employees is semi complex.
Human Collaboration
Work may require providing advice to others outside direct reporting relationships on specific problems or general policies. Contacts may require the consideration of different points of view to reach agreement. Elements of persuasion may be necessary to gain cooperation and acceptance of ideas. Interactions have limited impact.
Freedom To Act & Impact Of Actions
Receives General Direction. Employee normally perform the job by following established standard operating procedures and/or policies. There is a choice of the appropriate procedure or policy to apply to duties. Performance reviewed periodically. Impact of actions are moderate.
Fiscal Responsibility
Position has no fiscal responsibility.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education and Experience Equivalency: Associate's degree or 2 years of college. OR Additional work experience in these or other related fields may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required formal education.
- Work Related Experience: 1 to 3 years of court reporting experience.
- Licenses and Certifications: RPR certification through the NCRA plus meet national standard for Realtime (96% accuracy on one of the applicable exams).
- Physical Effort Requirements: Medium Work- Exerting up to 35 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
- Work Environment: Good-Relatively free from unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards.
- Work Location: Office or similar indoor environment.
- Exposures: Individuals who are hostile or irate; individuals with known violent backgrounds.
