About the Job HumRRO is seeking a Technical Writer to join our team supporting DoD computerized testing projects. The ideal candidate will lead technical documentation efforts, collaborating directly with Software Engineers, DevSecOps and business analyst teams on software requirements specifications, architectural documentation, and complex technical specifications. This role requires strong technical acumen to translate complex system designs into clear, compliant documentation for government systems.
Key Responsibilities Create and maintain Software Requirements Specifications (SRS) and technical architecture documents
Collaborate directly with development teams on API documentation, system integration guides, and DevSecOps processes
Develop comprehensive user manuals, SOPs, installation guides, and configuration documentation
Lead documentation for CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks, and cloud migration projects
Participate in sprint planning, technical design reviews, and backlog refinement sessions
Ensure 508 compliance and adherence to government documentation standards and style guides
Conduct document reviews, manage feedback cycles, and maintain version control
Support ATO processes and compliance documentation for FedRAMP and DoD requirements
Mentor junior writers and establish documentation best practices across projects
Requirements US Citizenship with ability to obtain T3 Public Trust clearance
Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing, English, Computer Science, or related field
3–5+ years of technical writing experience, preferably supporting government clients
Strong understanding of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Agile/Scrum methodologies
Experience with Atlassian tools (Jira, Confluence) and Git workflows
Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio) and Adobe Acrobat
Demonstrated ability to grasp complex technical concepts quickly and translate into clear documentation
Experience with government documentation standards, style guides, and compliance requirements
Excellent analytical, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
Ability to multitask, prioritize workload, and work with minimal supervision
Self‑starter with desire to learn and recommend new documentation technologies and processes
Preferred Experience documenting APIs, microservices architectures, and cloud‑native applications
Familiarity with AWS services, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), and DevSecOps practices
Understanding of CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and infrastructure as code
Experience with markup languages (Markdown, XML, JSON) and documentation‑as‑code practices
DoD contract experience and federal security compliance knowledge
Master's degree in related field
Experience with documentation automation tools and content management systems
Location Monterey CA, San Diego CA, or Alexandria VA (On‑site with up to 2 days remote after 90‑day introductory period)
The anticipated salary for this role is $90,000 to $120,000. Specific salary offers are based on candidate qualifications and experience.
