Position Summary
Harness your passion for persuasive storytelling and strategic communication as the College Development Writer at UCLA. In this pivotal role, you will collaborate with leadership, deans, and faculty to craft compelling materials that elevate UCLA College’s mission and inspire transformative philanthropy. Your work will strengthen the case for supporting the College’s innovative programs and initiatives; drive strategy by managing and developing innovative content to the College’s podcast, shaping effective content and working to strategically plan communications; and working with our communications team to drive our vision and presence by identifying, pitching and producing compelling multimedia stories while recommending innovative communication approaches to engage College constituents.
Salary & Compensation
UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Salary offers at the top of the range are not common. Qualifications
- Minimum of three years of writing experience, preferably in proposal organization and/or writing within external affairs and/or a related environment such as sales, marketing or business development. (Required)
- Demonstrated experience in writing creative and persuasive materials with a strong understanding of tone and voice; exhibits a tremendous eye for detail to compose, proofread and edit documents. (Required)
- Experience applying writing skills to various print and online formats, including articles, letters, brochures, speeches, etc.; experience in editing and publishing newsletters and/or magazines. (Required)
- Demonstrated experience in and enthusiasm for creating creative and persuasive video materials for social media and in general with a strong understanding of the storytelling opportunities inherent in a multimedia approach as well as a desire to innovate and deepen skills in this area. (Required)
- Strong working knowledge of the principles and practices of writing major proposals and its application for fundraising purposes; familiarity with the techniques of proposal organization and writing. (Required)
- Demonstrated knowledge of funding agencies. (Required)
- Flexibility to switch between types of writing; equally comfortable writing in clear, simple language as well as more technical/specialized verbiage or other styles as dictated by appropriate audience. (Required)
- Strong time and project management skills; demonstrated ability to independently plan, organize and prioritize assignments, provide proficient follow up and make effective timely decisions despite tight deadlines under minimal direction. (Required)
- Ability to work collaboratively with other professionals and be willing to make, offer or accept suggested changes as well as provide guidance, mentorship and training of writing skills and language usage. (Required)
- Dedicated, passionate, resilient, and results-oriented with demonstrated skill in succeeding at challenging assignments and producing work that is on point, on target, highly polished, and of a high standard. (Required)
- Exceptional interpersonal skills to work well within and across other departments, as well as establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a wide variety of internal and external constituents. (Required)
- Proficiency with Microsoft suite of applications as well as other applications, software, etc. for email, calendaring, database management with ability to conduct online research and learn new technologies in a prompt and efficient manner. (Required)
- Working knowledge of Salesforce and InDesign is helpful. (Preferred)
- Graphic design and video editing skills are a plus. (Preferred)
- Familiarity in developing and managing social media strategies and presence. (Preferred)
Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations
- Bachelor's Degree in Communications or related field. (Preferred)
