Document Specialist/Technical Writer (Contract Writer)

Duration: 12+ months

Responsibilities

The contract writer will be responsible for drafting and reviewing documentation related to procurement activities, such as purchase orders, service agreements, vendor contracts, modifications, and amendments. The role involves creating contract documentation, including developing the scope of services, performance requirements, and terms and conditions. It also requires developing language that defines delivery, service, quality, and pricing for services or products procured, ensuring that language is clear and consistent. The writer coordinates with all business units and stakeholders to ensure all protocols, procedures, and requirements are developed in accordance with the Department’s needs. Additional tasks include maintaining an internal documentation library, providing or coordinating special documentation services, and overseeing special projects as needed. The position requires strong organizational and project management skills, excellent writing and editing skills, and the ability to develop new contractual language based on business needs without relying solely on template documents.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Legal Studies, Technical Writing, Business Administration, or other related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 5 years of business or technical writing experience and working knowledge of procurement processes/documentation.
  • Complexity:
    • Works on several moderately complex to complex document management projects as a project team member.
    • May coach more junior staff.
  • Preferred Experience:
    • Knowledge of federal, state, and/or local procurement laws and regulations.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Strong collaboration skills to work with legal counsel, procurement officers, and business stakeholders.
    • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Analytical thinking and problem-solving ability.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
    • Excellent organizational skills.
