Description: The Department of Fine Arts, Design, Art History is pleased to invite applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Photography at Hofstra University. The Department of Fine Arts, Design, Art History at Hofstra University fosters an interdisciplinary and open-minded environment that encourages creative research, artistic practice, scholarship, and professional development. We emphasize the integration of creative discipline, intellectual curiosity, and practical skills that define a rigorous arts-based education. Our students thrive in small, supportive classes led by accomplished, practicing faculty who are recognized leaders in their fields. We invite applications from exceptional artists who are also educators whose work engages with contemporary photographic and video practices. The ideal candidate will bring a vibrant creative vision and a record of professional achievement with the potential for national or international recognition. Candidates should also demonstrate a developing record of effective teaching, mentorship, and a commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration within a dynamic undergraduate curriculum. The Assistant Professor of Photography responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Maintain an active creative practice and exhibition record.
Teach a 3/3 course load across foundation, intermediate, and advanced undergraduate photography courses, including studio classes aligned within area of expertise.
Participate in curriculum development and departmental planning.
Contribute to service at the department, college (Hofstra College of Liberal Arts and Sciences), and university levels.
Advise and mentor undergraduate students.
Qualifications:
MFA in Photography or a related field.
Active exhibition record or equivalent evidence of creative practice and critical recognition.
Demonstrated skills and experience in teaching at the college level.
Preferred Quals Summary:
Record of national/international exhibitions, awards and/or participation in residencies.
1–3+ years of college-level teaching experience beyond the MFA.
Conversant with art history, contemporary theory, and photographic discourse.
Proficiency in both foundational and advanced media software and photographic equipment (Darkroom and Digital)
