Job Title: UX Researcher II
Location: New York, NY (Manhattan)
Duration: 12-month contract (potential for extension or conversion)
Pay Rate: $53.01 - $95.39 / hour

About the Role The Foundation Model Group within Prescient Design (AI for Drug Discovery) at Genentech is seeking an experienced UX Researcher to help shape the next generation of AI‑powered scientific tools. This role focuses on improving usability and trust in LLM‑based (Large Language Model) and agentic AI frameworks that accelerate drug discovery.
You will act as the bridge between world‑class AI engineers and biomedical scientists, ensuring our internal AI tools are intuitive, impactful, and seamlessly integrated into complex research workflows.
Local candidates (NYC area) are strongly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
Lead AI Product Research : Conduct end‑to‑end user research to inform product strategy for internal AI and LLM‑based tools.
Design & Run Usability Studies : Apply advanced qualitative and quantitative methods‑contextual inquiries, task‑based tests, and user interviews‑to evaluate agentic workflows and interfaces.
Operationalize User Insights : Build structured systems for collecting, analyzing, and applying user feedback to guide AI model and product improvements.
Drive Product Strategy : Translate research findings into actionable recommendations that shape product direction and drive adoption.
Collaborate Cross‑Functionally : Partner closely with AI / ML engineers, scientists, and product teams to ensure user needs are reflected in every stage of design and development.
Build Research Infrastructure : Establish repeatable testing protocols and participant pipelines to scale UX research practices for internal expert users.
Communicate Insights : Deliver clear, persuasive reports that align technical and non‑technical stakeholders around user‑centric priorities.
Qualifications
3-5+ years of UX research experience with complex, expert‑facing or internal systems.
Strong command of qualitative and quantitative research methods (usability testing, generative research, data analysis, A / B testing).
Hands‑on experience with AI products, LLMs, or AI agents.
Familiarity with platforms such as UserTesting or Contentsquare.
Proven ability to connect deep user insights to strategic product decisions.
Excellent analytical, communication, and synthesis skills.
Passion for solving ambiguous, high‑impact problems in scientific or technical domains.
Highly Preferred
Experience in biotech, pharma, or life sciences , particularly building or shipping internal software tools.
Familiarity with LLM‑based systems and Model Context Protocol (MCP).
Background working directly with scientists, engineers, or subject matter experts.
