Job Description
The ATC Telecommunications SME serves as a senior technical advisor to program leadership, providing expertise in the architecture, modernization, integration, and sustainment of telecommunications networks that enable safe, secure, and reliable air traffic operations across the National Airspace System (NAS). This role ensures that legacy and next‑generation network infrastructures meet FAA mission requirements for performance, resiliency, cybersecurity, and interoperability. The SME advises FAA leadership on strategic network transition initiatives, supports technical evaluations, and ensures compliance with FAA and international standards. This position is part of our Federal Solutions team, delivering resources to U.S. government customers that ensure the success of missions around the globe. Key Responsibilities
Advise program leadership on telecommunications network modernization, transition planning, and risk mitigation. Provide subject matter expertise on current and emerging FAA network infrastructures (e.g., FAA Telecommunications Infrastructure [FTI], Enterprise Network Services [FENS], System Wide Information Management [SWIM]). Review and evaluate contractor deliverables, architectures, and test results for compliance with FAA requirements, ICAO standards, and NAS performance objectives. Conduct independent assessments of network performance, availability, security, and interoperability with ATC automation, voice, and surveillance systems. Support requirements development, system engineering reviews, verification/validation, and operational readiness assessments. Advise on cybersecurity, data integrity, and continuity‑of‑operations considerations for NAS telecommunications. Facilitate stakeholder engagement, technical workshops, and knowledge transfer to strengthen FAA decision‑making. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and typically 20+ years of related professional experience. Recognized expertise in large‑scale telecommunications networks, with experience supporting FAA programs. Strong knowledge of NAS network architecture, FAA acquisition processes, and telecommunications standards. Familiarity with IP‑based networking, cybersecurity, cloud integration, and service continuity in safety‑critical environments. Demonstrated ability to provide authoritative technical advice and influence FAA program and policy outcomes. Excellent communication, collaboration, and analytical skills.
