Senior Principal Scientist, Oligo Design and Data Science Location: Cambridge, MA – United States (USA)

GSK is seeking an exceptional and visionary scientist to join the Oligo Design and Data Science group as a Senior Principal Scientist. This pivotal role is at the heart of our strategy to accelerate drug discovery by leveraging massive‑scale screening data and machine learning. You will architect and implement the next generation of our DNA‑Encoded platforms informatics and drive our data strategy, shaping the future of hit‑finding at GSK.

Responsibilities

Lead the design and development of critical software infrastructure, from automated ETL pipelines that process terabyte‑scale sequencing data to sophisticated web applications and interactive dashboards enabling data‑driven decision‑making.

Develop and apply novel statistical methods for analyzing selection data from small molecule and oligonucleotide libraries, build robust machine learning models to predict structure‑activity relationships, and explore deep learning approaches for hit identification.

Collaborate with laboratory scientists, research technologies, AI/ML teams, and biophysics experts to translate complex data into actionable hypotheses for therapeutic discovery programs.

Support early‑stage small molecule and oligonucleotide discovery projects by driving data science initiatives and building data infrastructure, decision‑making heuristics, and tracking systems for early discovery workflows.

Architect, develop, and optimize predictive informatics platforms that enable scalable data integration, advanced statistical analytics, and actionable insights for therapeutic discovery.

Basic Qualifications

PhD in computational science, bioinformatics, cheminformatics, computer science, or a closely related discipline.

Proven experience in cheminformatics and DNA‑encoded library (DEL) data analysis, including advanced statistical and computational methods for large‑scale biological datasets.

Experience developing scientific applications using Python (pandas, scikit‑learn, Django), SQL, and deploying solutions on modern cloud infrastructure.

On‑site presence of 2–3 days per week for team collaboration and project delivery.

Preferred Qualifications

Leadership in platform development that integrates research technology, AI, and ML for scalable data analysis and informatics solutions.

Significant contributions to open‑source scientific software projects or recognized achievements in computational life science competitions (e.g., Kaggle, TopCoder, DREAM Challenge).

Expertise in designing and optimizing automated ETL pipelines for terabyte‑scale sequencing or screening data.

Advanced knowledge of predictive modeling, Bayesian statistics, and deep learning for hit identification and structure‑activity relationship prediction.

Demonstrated success in cross‑functional communication, matrixed collaboration, and thought leadership within multidisciplinary teams.

Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, translating complex biological questions into actionable computational solutions.

Experience with siRNA knockdown screens or CRISPR knockout libraries analysis.
